Hot to test tthe lamp bulb Samsung tv

Hello I have a samsung hd tv model # hLn617w The TV turns on and 3 lites flash, the temp, lamp,&timer lite. the manual tells me the 3 flashing lites indicate the lamp buld need replacing ? I got this TV for free from Craig list it is only 2 1/2 yr old. I am trying to figure how to test the lamp, see if this is really the problem ? wehn i tutn the tv on it seems to sound like it is getting warmed up to turn on and nothing happens except the 2 flashing picture at all comes on ? Is this possible the problem ? I see the bulbs range in price from $99 to $240 - why the high cost and why auch a price variant? Thank you very much for helping me solve this problem Willy C - Stoughton Ma

Samsung hln617w dlp tv won't turn on. Red temp

Had similar problem. Thought it was the lamp. Examined old lamp but it appeared to be good. Ordered a new one anyway. Changed the lamp but the TV screen would not come on. It would make the usual noise as it was going to come on normally but it would cycle 3 times & then turn off. The LED lights in the front panel would indicate a defective lamp. Then read about the ballast. Changed the ballast & still same problem. Tried starting the TV without the lamp installed & noticed that the color wheel did not spin. Removed old color wheel & discovered it was broken. This appears to be the cause of all of my problems. I wish I new earlier of the test-turn on the TV without the lamp being installed & check to see if the color wheel is spinning. Would have save money on the lamp & ballast.

Timer lamp and temp flashing

The lamp is flashing an error code related to the temp. Count the blinks and check the manual. You may need a new bulb or the fan may not be coming on.

My samsung dlp tv model#hln617w keeps turning off. Only stays on for 2 minutes. I replaced fan #2. Thunking that was the problem.

Why did you replace the fan was it noisey and did that cure the noise. These sets commonly have problems with color wheels-do you get motor noise at startup?

Samsung DLP HLN617W TV does not turn on, all 3 lights flash

In this case it seems you may have an issue with your ballast. Either it's going out or barely starting. I recommend you replace it
