Half is assigned to the video memory. You can double check by going into the bios or even change the settings which I do not reccomend. .

One or both of the new RAM modules is incompatible, defective or not inserted properly. Try one at a time also verify your board supports 1GB and the type of RAM you are using.

I have a Packard Bell desk top PC In 2006 I Installed windows vista I noticed I needed a 512 ram as I had 256.I bought a 512 ram I knew were to install It ,I took the 256 ram out and carefully put In...

You put in the wrong type of memory. Put the old 256 back in the computer should power on with no beep code(or all good beep). If this is correct make sure to obtain the same type of memory as the 256. Also both slots must have the same RAM. You cannot have a 128 with a 512. They should both be either 128 or 512.
If you are using Vista you should have a minimum of 1g RAM.

When upgrading from one 256 K memory module to two 512 modules how do you get the second slot to recognize the second 512 module?

I am sure when you say 256k you mean 256 mb? You should not have to do anything for the computer to recognize it. Almost all computers are set up to automatically recognize memory. When installed and you right click on my computer and select properties how much ram does it say is installed? If it is just shy of 1GB or if says something like 985MB then that would be normal. If it only says 512 or 469MB then you have a problem with the second memory bank.

Which memory ram for amilo pro v7010

http://www.fujitsu-siemens.ru/Resources/123/2080773523.pdf

Here's a link to the Data Sheet with the specifications to that Laptop in Adobe Reader format.

Looks like your Laptop came with either 256 or 512 MB of DDR SDRAM and it is upgradable to 2 GB of DDR SDRAM.

You can check to see exactly how much RAM your computer came with by going to Control Panel, double-click System and it should tell you how much RAM you currently have in the System Properties box.

The motherboard has 2 slots for RAM, you you could add a second 256 MB or a second 512 MB stick of RAM. Or if you wanted to upgrade to the 2GB of maximum RAM this computer handles, then you can take out the RAM chip(s) that is installed and install two 1G DDR SDRAM.

Adding memory

Try re-seating the RAM. If that doesn't work ensure that your laptop supports the ram you bought. If the RAM you have is PC2700 and your computer only supports up to PC2500 (for example) it wont work.
