The oven/stove is from the 70's and the pilot light is on but the oven will not heat up. help

Hello,

Thank you for bringing me back to the early days of my appliance repair career, now a days every thing uses a electronic ignitor and its been a while since i have seen a free standing pilot :)

As far as your oven, when you turn on the oven does the small pilot light increase in size,if not the oven thermostat is the most likely problem and for the most part the thermostats are no longer avaliable. If the pilot size increases the pilot burner could be not properly heating a small bulb in the pilot burner, the pilot burner could be cleaned by a senior tech that knows how to do it correctly OR the small bulb is heating and what that the bulb attaches to (the gas safety vavle) is not opening to allow gas flow to the main bake burner
Depending on your exact model (what parts were used when it was built) the pilot burner and gas safety valve are still avaliable

Im calling for heat from the thermastat and control panel, the boiler light and and the fan is running, but no matter how many times i keep re trying the pilot and burner will not commence, is there...

I would check to make sure control on gas valve is in on position and pilot is lit if you have a standing pilot. If you have a spark or hot surface ignitor make sure they are trying to lit pilot. If you have standing pilot model and pilot lit is not on. Turn control on gas valve to off, wait five mins. then turn to pilot. Depress botton and try to light pilot. If it lights hold down for a couple of mins. then release.. If pilot stays lit turn control to on. If thermostat is calling for heat this should bring main burner on. If pilot does not stay lit then replace thermocouple. Hope this helps. Thanks

The fan will blow but not in heat mode. The gas heater sounds like it wants to work but there is no heat.

Hello my name is Heath it will be my pleasure to assist you. The problem is probably with the ignition. Check the pilot if its a standing pilot or the hot surface ignitor if it has a HSI ignition If you ohm the hotsurface ignitor and it doesn't show resistance the HSI is shot. If its a standing pilot try lighting the pilot if it lites and doesn't stay lit then the thermocouple could be bad its the rod that sits in the pilot flame easily replaced with a universal replacement that can be found at most hardware stores.

Try cleaning your thermocouple, and resetting it where was, which is located at the pilot flame. this should solve your problem.

My honeywell gas suspended garage heater will not come on when the t'stat calls for heat. It is a heat only unit and neither the fan nor the blower motor will come on. The Heater is getting power to it...

The pilot light has to be lit before gas valve will operate. That's a safety feature so the valve won't open and fill the garage with gas and possibly cause an explosion or fire. If you have a standing pilot and can't get pilot to stay lit, it's usually the thermocouple and it will need to be replaced. Once the pilot is lit, the gas valve comes on and heats the combustion chamber up to approx. 100° to 125° a thermostat controlled fan switch will close and bring the blower on.

Why does a pilot light go out,but the fan keeps running?

some heaters use a timer to bring fan on as opposed to some which use temp

Pilot wont stay lit installed new gas valve and new thermocouple

Is this a standing pilot furnace, or electronic igniton?

If standing pilot, does the heater use a fan to blow air through the heat exchanger?

If the answer to those questions is yes, then check that the pilot orifice is not partially plugged and that there is a strong pilot blowing against the thermocouple. If there is, replace the thermocouple. If not, check the orifice again, and check that the inlet screen to the gas valve is not filled with gas line trash.

If the the pilot flame is good and it continues to go out, the thermocouple magnet in the gas valve may be weak. Replace the gas valve as to get just the magnet and coil is not easy.
