I bought a lenevo ThinkPad r400 at a yard sale it worked in front of me windows 7 so when i went home tried to restore it but when it was my baby unpluged it i noticed way later now it dont stay on or go to windows anymore error code comes on how do i fix it

Depends what the error code is. If you were restoring the disc at the time, download an ISO from Windows and use that. I take it you have a valid COA.

This is usually caused by one of three items.

1. The cdrom drive is failing

2. The hard drive is failing (it may say hdd 0)

3. The interface to those two items is failing

Consult your seller ASAP and check that he would accept a return. If it was bought "as is" then your are out of luck. So sorry for the bad news

When you first turn on power go into set up mode (hitting delete or F10 should say on boot up) when your in setup move to boot menu and move cd to 1rst boot order then harddrive. Pop in Xp disk and restart computer you should see "to boot from cd hit any key" hit any key and follow prompts to install xp on your computer.

Thinkpad T61 went dark abruptly after startup


Make system restore, or better reinstal vista from IBM image file, dont install any updates, go get windows 7 , and get rid out of vista.
