SOURCE: HP Compaq NX960 Laptop Keyboard Problem

This is generally a sensitivity issue with the keyboard. It's usually caused when the rubber depressors that activate each key start getting worn. Sometimes you can take each key off individually, take off the rubber depressor and clean the contact point on the keyboard and up inside the depressor where it makes contact. Clean it with with rubbing alcohol and Q-tips. This is alot of work and only fixes the problem about 60% of the time. Your only other option is replacing the keyboard.

SOURCE: replacing keyboard for advent 7108 laptop

I have had the same problem several times over and it is VERY likely that the liquid has reached other components (specifically the motherboard) and will corrode anything that the liquid has come to rest on. The keyboard itself is easy enough to remove and replace, but the only place I am finding parts for advents is in the UK. This means replacement of the keyboard COULD be costly and in the long run the computer may fail due to corrosion especially if it was pop or juice or any other acidic liquid. Here is the link I found for a possible solution.  http:/www.adventspares.co.uk  if they dont have it, these guys might... http://www.techno-mart.co.uk/advent.html
Good luck, and I hope you havent damaged your motherboard! Kirk

Tip

Cleaning your Keyoard

Hello

This is a tip explaining exactly what steps you you should follow if you would like to Clean your keyboard. What usually happens, is that keys get stuck, due to dust particles or faulty rubbesr under the keys itself.

Before we start cleaning, you need to shut down your computer and unplug your keyboard from either the USB slot, or the PS2 port.

Now, you will need:
  • Some Spirits/alcohol
  • Cotton swabs
  • high static cloth/cleaning cloth
  • Vacuum or compressed air
  • Clean, soft paint brush
  • And lastly, some patients..
Step1

Ok, the first step will be to place your keyboard in front of you on a level surface.

Now, either use a vacuum or some compressed air to ****/blow out the particles beneath the keys. If you use a vacuum or compressed air, turn the keyboard downwards so that gravity will pull the particles down as well.

Step 2:

When you are done removing the particles underneath the keys, place the keyboard on a flat surface like figure 1. Now you will need to dip the cotton swabs into the alcohol or spirits and clean the tiny spaces between each key.

Step 3:

Now, after you have claened all the tiny spaces between the keys as seen in figure 2, i usually use a regular soft paint brush and just brush off the whole keyboard, at the side of the keys, as well as the bottom side.

Step 4:

Lastly, take the cleaning cloth and put some alcohol on it. Now wipe clean the whole keyboard after you have completed the abovementioned steps.

Now, you are done. Just plug the keyboard back in, and start up your computer. I always keep my soft paint brush near, to minimize the dust builup on the keyboard between cleaning periods.

Hope you can find this helpfull and rate acordingly.

Kind regards
Andrea

In my laptop some keys are not working

Probably that is a result of sticky dust particles under the keys of your keyboard. Get your computer to a computer technician to open it up and blow and clean the dust off. The cleaning should be done using benzene

Laptop keyboard not operational

If you replaced the keyboard with a Dell replacement 1501 keyboard and it still doesn’t work then yes the motherboard will probably have to be replaced. If your son spilled water on the laptop it could clear up after it completely dries. If it was juice, soft drink or sport drink the laptop could develop other issues. The syrup in these kinds of drinks don’t evaporate, they just remain there and accumulate foreign particles like dust, hair, dirt and eventually start to corrode electrical contacts like acid. Similar to the terminal posts on a car battery.
