SOURCE: A Dyson dc 17 Animal and the wand/hose has lost suction

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though the wand/hose is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose assembly from the machine, switch it on and test the suction from the top of the wand with your hand. If the suction is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction from the top of the hose. If its good here, then you know that the wand handle is blocked.

For the full diagnostics, check out the Support section on our website at www.dyson.com or call our Helpline on 1866MYDYSON.

Kind regards

SOURCE: No suction on wand of Dyson DC14 Animal

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

It sounds as though the wand handle is blocked. To check this, remove the wand/hose from the machine as if you were going to use it to vacuum the stairs. Switch the machine on and test the suction at the top of the wand handle with your hand. If the suction from the wand is poor, remove the wand from the hose and test the suction again from the top of the hose. If the suction here is good, then you know the wand handle is blocked. If the suction is poor at the hose, you can remove the hose from the machine and clear any blockages here.

For the full blockage procedure please visit the support section on our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards

SOURCE: hi my dyson dc18 has great suction from wand but

My Dyson dc18 had the same symptoms. The wand worked well and the floor bar had no suction. After removing pieces & shoving my fingers into the machine (no blockage) I found the suction pipe rotates between two positions (floor and wand). It looks like a piece of plastic broke on the outside housing, so it no longer rotates positions when the wheels are raised or lowered. My son found we can move the suction by sliding a finger into the mechanism behind the wheel cover, and rotating the plastic piece clock-wise or counter clock-wise until it locks into position. It's a big pain but it works for now. I wish I could find a replacement piece online. Patty

My Dyson DC41 will not suck from the base only from the wand.

On the Dyson DC41, when you take out the wand for operation, at the bottom of the wand when you put it back, there is a small cover that's supposed to engage closed. Have you checked to see if that's closed all the way? What happens is that the spring for this cover, gets worn out over time and won't close properly. Please check that and let me know if that resolved your issue! Thanks...

Tip

Dyson DC41, DC43, DC65 or DC66 - Removing a blockage from the wand or hose

If your Dyson DC41, DC43, DC65 or DC66 upright vacuum cleaner doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be through the hose, wand or cleaning tools, this may be due to a blockage. A blockage could occur if an item too big for the machine has been accidentally vacuumed up.

After turning off and unplugging the machine, please follow the steps shown in the video to locate and remove any obstructions from the wand, hose and changeover valve.

My vacuum is making noise and has no suction through the accessory bar.Checked the hose and inside of machine for blockages and still have no suction. Do you have any ideas of what to do next? Thanks.

Hi Margaret, it's Jack at Dyson.

Although I understand you've already checked your DC41 Animal for blockages, it does sound as if there is an obstruction somewhere inside the hose, wand or changeover valve of your machine. This is quick and easy to check for, and our video guides below will walk you through each step:

I'm confident this will help, but you're welcome to contact the Dyson Customer Helpline directly if you'd like further assistance after giving this a try. If a repair or a replacement part is needed, our experts will be able to confirm whether this is covered under your Dyson warranty.

Dyson no suction in upholstery wand

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most Dyson upright vacuums, DC18 is engineered to divert suction to the hose and wand automatically when it's standing in the upright position. If your DC18 doesn't seem to have suction from the wand when standing upright, you may have a blockage in the hose or wand. Please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide to check for this: http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc18/dc18-all-floors/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/no/remove-the-wand-from-hose

It's also a good idea to give the filter a wash - in normal use, this should be done at least once every 3 months as shown in the video below. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 horus for the filter to dry completely before replacing it.

I'm confident following these steps will resolve the issue. However if you'd like any further guidance from our experts after you've given this a try, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

The hose suction on my Dyson Animal (DC41) is fine, but will not disengage when you put the hose back and want to use the floor sweeper.

Hi Stacy, it's Jack at Dyson.

This issue you've described with your DC41 sounds unusual, as the changeover valve will divert suction to the cleaner head automatically when you recline the machine into the vacuuming position. If it's not doing this, it's possible you have a blockage somewhere in the cleaner head, internal hose or changeover valve.

To check for this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc41/dc41-irspu/diagnosis-root-menu/performance-flo-area-check-dc41/flo-brushbarvid-dc41/redirect-to-performance-flo-base-dc41-checking-the-internal-hose/performance-flo-base-dc41-checking-the-internal-hose

If you'd like some further advice after you've given us a try, please email our experts with your details at askdysonUS@dyson.com. Someone will be in touch to help as soon as possible

My Dyson 41 has just started only sucking through the tube

We've had our DC41 for 4 months now and suddenly noticed no suction at the base as well. Base motor works fine.Thought I'd take one last look before sending in for repair. At the base of the attachment hose near the motor is a small red tab. I depressed it and pulled the entire hose off the motor. Sure enough inside was a eyeliner pencil our daughter had unknowingly vacuumed up. I couldn't see it just peering the length of the hose. Even with a flashlight. You don't see mention of the small red tab but it allows you to see close up rather than peering down the hose if something is lodged near the motor. Apparently this pencil prevented the internal hardware to switch from wand to base suction when the handle is reclined in floor vacuum mode. These vacuums have strong suction and they will pull up the oddest things! Hope this helps!!
