Question about Whirlpool Dryers

Whirlpool dryer door pops open.

Was leaning on the door to replace a bulb at the back of the dryer. Door would not shut tightly. I pushed it closed, then it pops open.

It appears the your door is not aligned like is supposed to due to the weight you put on when leaned on. You now need to do some twisting and turning to bring the door alignment back to normal . When you do this process don't over do it or it may break. If is not possible you may need to replace the complete door or just the door hinge. Good luck

SOURCE: Dryer door won't stay closed

hi,

shut off the breaker- pull the female receptacle clasp out of the front with flat screwdriver and needle nose and squeeze the back of it gently with pliers, replace, if its busted and you get mad, you can buy a standard padlock and latch and install that, that helps in other ways as well, careful to steer clear and watch the inner wall for wires and clearances if your going to retrofit that.

This was a concern on some whirlpool and kenmore dryers. The fix was to replace both of the catches (the part on the dryer front panel ) and the latches (the part on the door) as well as a redesigned door gasket. Im sure if you contact Whirlpool customer assistance they would be able to supply you with a part number for the repair kit....

Whirpool dryer model wed9400swo the dryer door pops open

This usually occurs when the load is too large, causing the cloths to push the door open. If this is not the case, you should replace the door latch mechanism, which is what keeps the door closed.

My duet dryer's door will pop while drying and then the door is not shut tightly. The door never completely opens just not shut tight and the light comes on in it. When this happens the dryer quits, and...

We had the same problem and surprised how rampant the issue was after referring to the internet reviews / troubleshooting, etc. The problem started after about 6 months and the solution came to me after much "headaching" over the problem. There were no 'codes' coming up just the door popping open during the cycle. I purchased a (2) twenty pack of 1/2" diamerter x 1/16" thick N42 Neo Earth Magnets and placed them along the top edge and bottom edge of the dryer opening. Instant fix in less than a minute. The thickness does not interfere with the door opening and the strength of the magnets is obvious. Hope this helps. Fix was less than $10 bucks and no service man, etc.

Dryer door won't stay shut latch won't catch

If this specific dryer has the door that opens forward (top to bottom as opposed to left to right, etc...) the common problem is that downward pressure on the door has bent it slightly. This happened on mine when one of my daughters would lean on the door while loading and/or unloading the dryer. If this is the case, then the door may pop open while running even though the latch looks good.

The best way to tell is just let the door rest naturally in the closed position. If it does not rest all the way closed, then the lower portion of the door & frame has been slightly bent as indicated above.

The door & frame has to be slightly bent/forced back out at the bottom. This can be accomplished with a large screwdriver or something similar such as a paint mixing paddle or basically anything that will fit between the bottom of the door (from the inside) and the dryer frame. Very slowly close the door with the paint paddle or large screw driver in place (again on the inside...not from the outside of the door). The goal is to just barely force the bottom of the door framing back out without warping it grossly.

Just take your time and be as gentle as possible & make small adjustments until the door will remain closed and latched.

The latch is really only required to keep the door secure while clothes are beating against the door interior. Proper alignment actually keeps the door closed.

Let me know if this helps.

Dryer door won't stay shut when drying clothes

There is a clip inside your dryer door that acts as snap (kinda like on baby clothes). It snaps the door closed - so to speak. If the outer part of that 'snap' gets a little stretched out it will not hold as tightly. When those heavy, wet clothes hit against the door it pops it open because the 'snap' is not working right. As long as the outer part of the 'snap' is still intact, you can fix this problem by simply squeezing it together alittle to make it grab tighter so that the door stays closed while drying your clothes. If that doesn't make it tight enough you could tear off a small corner of a paper towel to fill in the hole a little to make it tighter.

Hope this info was helpful to you. Good Luck!

if the door is not tight as in you can move it slightly when its closed, the door strike and door catch need replacing and can be done without dryer disassembly at the front door, open the dryer door and in the lower right hand corner theres a small plunger switch push this in with your finger you will hear a click, then start dryer with door open being careful, this test will rule out switch problem, then just replace door parts

Dryer doesn't stop when the door is opened

it sounds like your door switch is stuck. you can replace it yourself. first, shut off the breaker. second, wrap a putty knife with masking tape to prevent scratching up the dryer. then, use it to pop open the plastic catch on each front corner. take your time and look inside the small gap with a flashlight to help figure it out. after you have the top of the dryer safely tilted back, look for 2 wires running to the door. they will plug into a switch that is flipped when you close the door completely. you know what i mean, it probably used to click when you shut the door. unplug these wires from either side of the switch. remove the switch and replace it. hook up your wires. close the top and you should be good to go. good luck

Dryer door won't close

You probably bent the hinges if you can't see an actual crease in the door. Just pull the screws out of the hinge where it meets the door, and using a large pair of channel locks manipulate the hinge back to it's proper alignment, stopping to put door back on every once in a while to check it. Simple as that. You may have to flip unit over on it's back if the mounting screws for the hinges are not accessible.
