Question about Washing Machines

Aeg lavamat turbo 16830

We have two problems: one we've put up with for ages: the dryer doesn't work... you get an error/beep after a few minutes. I believe it needs a new drain pump. More seriously, it is now sporadically cutting out completely. As soon as the motor starts, all lights go off, it clicks then they come back on, and the cycle repeats. It doesn't happen all the time. I wonder if it's a faulty tilt sensor, or unbalanced load indication. I'm guessing... Any help would be very much appreciated. Kind regards, Ned

Please try the following with a empty machine: try any wash cycle try any rinse cycle and try any spin cycle and report back what happens.

At the moment, it's working... but it's something I tried previously: basically it cuts out as soon as the motor kicks in, doesn't matter whether it's wash, spin or rinse cycle. Drain works for longer, but cuts out at a point when the motor starts to move.

But as I say, it's intermittent. Last week it worked for 4 days then the same thing started happening. I had it on it's side on Satruday, and tried to run a cycle; that wouldn't start at all (unsurprsiginly); it cut out staright away - with now water inlet. I righted it again and it all worked. I'm tempted to replaced the drain pump to see if that helps, and fixes the dryer funciton too, but don't want to throw good money after bad. Thanks for your help!

SOURCE: AEG Lavamat 1271 Turbo starts cycle but makes end

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

Here are my complete and generic guidance notes for checking both the drain motor filter and the drain motor ;-0)
If you are unsure where the filter is, it is often behind the front lower (kick) panel (or in some machines at the rear in an awkward position!). These panels are either held on by (plasic) screws or will just pull off. Most filters are held in by a round cover/knob. Sometimes the filter will not come out with the cover and you will have to persuade it to come out to play.

REMOVE POWER AND ENSURE YOU HAVE A WATER RECEPTACLE/RAGS TO SOAK UP THE WATER WHICH IS BOUND TO POUR OUT (alternatively use a wet vac as sensibly suggested by VinnyB1234!)
It's surprising what people have found in theirs! It is always worthwhile checking it on a regular basis.
Now- whilst the filter is removed it is normally possible to see the drain motor and ensure it is not jammed by a foreign object such as a needle or a toothpick. It should be able to be turned by hand/finger- the power IS OFF!
At this point it is also possible to test if the motor works. No clothes or water in the machine, select a spin cycle and put the power back on. You should be able to see the motor turning at some point, possibly straight away. Using something suitable like a glove see if it is easy to briefly slow the motor down. If it is easy then the motor is malfunctioning.

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck!

AEG Lavamat Turbo 16830: error code E41. The machine will get approx. 20 minutes into a cycle then trip my mains circuit breaker.

It sounds more like a heater fault where the heater is shorting out. Try disconnecting the heater and test it with a meter, put one terminal from the meter on either of the heater terminals and the other on the heater casing, if you get a reading the heater needs replacing. If there is no reading then reconnect the heater terminals and do the test again this will test through the heater wiring, it will at least give you some idea as to where the fault is.

AEG Lavamat 16830 won't drain

The simplest way is to lay the washing machine on the right side so that you filter closer to the floor and from bottom of the washing machine is accessible drain pump. It can be fixed by three screws
or just turn pump counter clockwise and pull out.
