2005 GTO LS-2 AUTO -- 1800 org.miles After a few minites of driving, Safety Mode/Reduced Preformance is displayed on dash and power is reduced drastically. I was told no codes are set, and just drive it. Seem to be ok when cold.

My GTO had the very same issue. After bringing it to the performance, and spending hundreds of dollars, the problem was nothing more than wires connected to the throttlebody incorrectly. No matter what, you should not drive the vehicle with that fault code.

The onboard cpu engine control module is going into closed loop. you need to take it to a different shop and see if they can hook up a diagnostic computer and find out why it is doing it. closed loop is there only to get you off of the hiway if you are having problems not to keep driving with it like that. What ever is causing the closed loop condition could cause serious damage if not fixed.

My 2005 Malibu is displaying reduced engine power on the dash I had auto zone to test it gave a code of throttle body actuator is this the same as throttle body housing

Pretty much, the throttle body actuator is the small motor that opens and shuts the throttle blade and is serviced in the housing assembly.

What does engine power reduced mean

This is a symptom of the on board computer detecting an issue with the engine / operability. It has placed the engine in limp or reduced power mode to minimize potential damage. You may see a check engine or service engine soon indication on the dash with this problem. Some auto parts stores can scan the car's computer to get the code(s) causing the the reduced power mode. Many times, this issue needs to be addressed by a mechanic however.

What causes the "Reduced Engine Power", "Service Stability Control" and "Traction Control" warning lights to come on?

the "Reduced Engine Power", problem causes the PCM to disable "Service Stability Control" and "Traction Control" turning on the warning lights to come on for those systems . The reduced engine power is because of a problem with the electronic throttle control system or as GM calls it TAC system . Reduced Engine Power Mode
When the PCM detects a condition with the TAC system, the PCM may enter a reduced engine power mode. Reduced engine power may cause one or more of the following conditions:
ā€¢ Acceleration limiting--The PCM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the vehicle acceleration is limited.
ā€¢ Limited throttle mode--The PCM will continue to use the accelerator pedal for throttle control, however, the maximum throttle opening is limited.
ā€¢ Throttle default mode--The PCM will turn OFF the throttle actuator motor and the throttle will return to the spring loaded default position.
ā€¢ Forced idle mode--The PCM will perform the following actions:
- Limit engine speed to idle by positioning the TP, or by controlling the fuel and spark if the throttle is turned OFF.
- Ignore the accelerator pedal input.
ā€¢ Engine shutdown mode--The PCM will disable fuel and de-energize the throttle actuator.

There are MANY engine control malfunctions that can cause the engine control system to default to "Reduced Power Mode".

Reduced Power Mode is simply a computer strategy that was created by the vehicle manufacturers to keep people from doing dumb things like continuing to operate the vehicle with the "Check Engine" or other warning lamps YELLING at them to get their car properly diagnosed and repaired. Reduced Power Mode is also designed to protect the vehicle from further damage in certain cases.

Ignoring the warning lamps can cause safety issues as well as damage HIGH DOLLAR parts like catalytic converters, which the vehicle manufacturers are responsible for due to Federal Emissions and Safety laws.

As for whether it is covered under warranty....
Many major components of your engine control system are covered under the Federally-Mandated 8-Year 80,000 mile emissions warranty. The ONLY way to find out if your particular failure is covered is to have the vehicle first diagnosed to determine what is CAUSING the failure. Then you must check with an authorized dealer to see if the part (or parts) causing the problem are covered.

My 2005 c5500 only does 20 mph,changed fuel filter,engine light is on

There is an issues that prompt the ECM to put the "reduced engine power" mode to activate. Your going to have to get the DTC code to addressed the issue so the ECM will deactivate the "reduced engine power" mode.
Thank you for using Fixya and Auto Zone can scan free of charge and give you the recommendation to address the issue and as why your engine is in the reduced power mode. Good luck

Service Stabilitrak-Reduced Engine Power

the engine light is a generic fault indicator in your car to point out something is not quite right with the engine, having a loss of power as well is also known in some areas as Limp Mode or Safety Mode. it means the car is restricting the power it gives to ensure no damage it done to the engine.

the only certain way to find out what is wrong is to take it to a garage that has diagnostics equipment that can read the fault codes from the vechicles ECU (the fault codes will be the reason the light on the dash has come on as its reporting a fault somewhere)..

your mechanic should be able to tell you what is wrong with the engine from that and give you a more accurate cost at fixing it.

Why does reduce engine power light comes on chevy

That is a hard problem to pin point without knowing what codes the computer has stored. It can be any number or sensors or engine problems.

You can go to most auto parts stores and they will pull the codes for you for free.
