I've tried to dowload pictures from my camera (Powershot A550). I installed software and connected camera but it seems that my computer didn't recognize the camera /if I go to control panel and click "find and install hardware", the computer actually finds it and says, that my camera is working properly/. I've tried to install the software several times and it still doesn't work. The programs (Zoom BrowserEX) cannot recognize the camera. /I have windows XP./

I have successfully installed the canon a550 software and have done everything correctly. When I click on the icon with the camera attached and on it does not say import pictures. It worked fine for a long time now there is a problem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it still does not work, and have changed usb ports etc. Is the computer missing something a driver or ???

    Thank You

I think the problem is when the operating system upgrades or automatically updates the windows xp or 2000-03, etc... I just installed the xp version on the computer and the A550 used to work like a charm now can't read?? I hear the bell chime notifying the computer that the camera power is on....

I have never had any problem downloading pics to PC, from Canon A550 to Windows xp via zoombrowser or straight into Picasa. Now it does not recognise a device. Tried reinstalling Canon software, bought a new USB cable, but to no avail. If I buy a card reader will I then find out the problem is with the camera?

Go to your computer's administrative tools and find services. Check the status your camera software. Status should read automatic. I had a software conflict that turned my camera window off.

For me the solution in the end was to buy a memory card reader. Only about £5 and worth every penny. So easy to use.

You should install the camera driver on your computer first. This way your computer will find the camera and you will be able to download the pictures from your camera to your computer. Another easier way is to buy a card reader (which is very cheap) and insert your memory card in it, plug the card reader to the USB port of your computer and download the pictures.

Plugging in usb lead to computer.. XP computer doesnt see camera??

Some cameras need a driver to be detected, but some need the installation CD to detect the camera. You can use a card reader to have the computer detect the pictures, and drag and drop them from the card to the computer. The card reader will be detected in My Computer as another drive, i.e. f:, g:, etc.
Good luck and hope this helps.

Windows xp sp2 does not detect camer when connected with usb

Consider NOT using the USB connection.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program, such as Picasa ( ).

Picture project not detecting camera since installed windows 7, how do we download pictures now. camera is being detected by pc so it doesnt appear to be a hardware issue, nikon resource center say they...

You could try the folowings:

1) Run your picture project program under XP SP 2 'compatibilty mode'.

2) Run the picture project program in XP mode if your computer and version of Windows 7 allows it (eg. Professional or Ultimate versions but your computer processor will need to support 'hardware virtualization).

3) Run the program in a Virtual machine with XP installed: I would use Sun VirtualBox which is free and does not need hardware virtualisation (unlike windows 7 'native' XP mode or VPC2007).

As you can see, you do have some options to overcome Windows 7 shortcomings! Hope it helps.

Hoe to install a diferent windows on a DELL

If HDD makes shshshsh.... or spinning sound or generates heat, your HDD might be ok. Next Try with XP sp2 cd. If it again cant detect HDD, go to BIOS setting and watch if the HDD is showing it's status. If Bios can not detect HDD check HDD cable and power cable inserted in HDD. Replace them if needed. Format the HDD with another PC. If you still have problem replace HDD with new one. One thing you might use your corrupted HDD as a slave drive later, i hope.

Keep informing.

I can't upload pictures from my SD850 to XP

I had same problem: ZoomBrowser had been working fine on XP sp2, but today I found it could no longer detect the camera. My guess is some operating system patch caused it to stop working. I finally got it working again by doing the following:

1) Go to , select Powershot G1 as the product, and get the list of available updates.

2) Download and install the latest version of ZoomBrowser (6.0.1).

3) Download and (re-)install the USB driver ( Canon Digital Camera WIA Driver 3.9.1). It will probably tell you it's already installed, but continue with the install anyway. It will also warn you that the driver isn't certified for XP, but ignore that and continue.

4) Reconnect the camera to the USB port on the computer and put it into upload mode. *Now* a window should pop up with a selection of programs you can launch, including ZoomBrowser. Yay!

Hope this helps.
