Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
Hi, I have a new dell inspiron 1520 laptop and dell 946 all in one printer. However, I'm unable to print. I've tried all the fixes suggested (ie check usb connections, power on/off, adjust firewall settings, restart laptop) but nothing has worked. When I check settings in the control panel everything looks fine. I'm running Windows Vista with McAffe and Windows firewalls. Thanks, Rod

I just experienced this problem today. The beeping means that when you tried to update the firmware it damaged the printer internally. I would have to assume there is some kind of chip in there that can be flashed and it got cooked by the firmware update. Dell is sending me a new one.

Go out to Lexmark web site and look for a vista update in their software download section. So this should solve your problem.Most of the cds which come with equipment do not contain vista software and drivers.

turn off the printer.
disconnect the printer from the computer.
restart the computer.
conencted the printer after the computer is up, and all applications are loaded.
the computer should inform you the printer is connected.
send a test page to the printer.

If you just connected the printer to your Vista PC, the drivers probably didn't load.
If you haven't yet, you need to install the Lexmark drivers first before you can use your printer. Unplug the printer before installing, then plug it in when prompted by the software.

I have seen that in most of the cases (with lexmark and dell printers) it is fixed by reinstalling the printer software. Be sure that you completely remove the older drivers using the cd or using add/remove programs.

Tips for a great answer:
Remove the battery from its compartment on the side of your Dell Inspiron laptop computer.
Remove the power adapter from its plug on the side of the Dell Inspiron (if your laptop is currently plugged into a wall outlet).
Press down and hold the "Power" button on the laptop for one to two minutes. This will dispel the excess electrical current that is built up inside the laptop.
Put the battery back inside the compartment of your Dell Inspiron.
Plug your power adapter back into the side of the Dell Inspiron. Press "Power." Your laptop computer will now turn on.
