Re: power on, but nobody home

If you are using Windows XP try entering Printer and Faxes from your start menu.
Check your printer is indicated as ready rather than offline. If offline - reinstall the drivers.
If it is ready you have -print a test page - option. If the test page does not print then the conection cables may need checking.
If it is an ink problem then the paper will move through the printer, but nothing will be printed.
This may also flag up error messages which may tell you what is wrong.
Hope this helps.

If this an inkjet then you might find that the cartridges have dried up.

Try this... it reads the level of the toner and can become faulty. This clears it.

3: Turn power on to printer and let it cycle. Status/Toner lights will come on as usual.

Canon IP3300 sunddenly lost POWER in the middle of printing

the piece of metal that connects to the power cable might have dirt on it, or it might have come loose from the printer's internal wiring, or a soldering joint in one of the chips might have come loose, and in that case you need to go to a specialist because there is no way that anyone but a specialist would be able to find a boken joint in the printer's myrad of circuts

Lexmark 6575 - cleared a paper jam but the error message won't clear. Tried every combination of buttons and power off I can think of. There is no paper in it and all the wheels turn when it powers up. ...

Went to the Lexmark support site and got on a chat with a tech rep. Ran thru a bunch of options and fixes - no success. Seems like a OS glitch internal to the printer. Luckily it was only 3 months old, so they are shipping me a replacement! Excellent support, and excellent response, really backing up the printer with a great reputation.
