We replaced the alternator in our 2004 Kia Sedona. It started great at first. The next time I started it, it seemed to be idling low and then it cut off. I came out a few hours later started it up took a short drive and everything seemed fine. I decided it would be ok to take it to the store and while I was out I started to smell something like burning plastic and then the battery and brake light came back on. As far as I can see the belt is still in place and I can't see anything that looks like it is rubbing or melting, but the smell is coming from the side where the alternator is. When I got home and opened the hood to check the belt the car conked out on me. I haven't tried to start it since.

SOURCE: 2004 Kia Sedona trying to find the starter.

it is located on the drivers side underneath the van. you have to remove it from the underside of the car. you will need a 17 millimeter socket or wrench. Remove the ground cable before attempting to remove the starter.

Hi,

Sounds like some of your internal wiring might be burning up. Check your Fuses too,

You can't drive around like this too long; take it to a garage to get it repaired now rather then later.

I hope this helps,

Thanks.

It's normal for belts to loosen up a little after installation. I'd check the belt and re-tighten until there's no slack. A slipping belt would certainly cause the issue you have. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck!

Kia Sedona 2004 ex. The cam sensor replaced and cil replaced and spark plugs replaced. When starting up and still idling it hesitates or seems to skip. Engine light was off and now is back on.

idling rough and misfiring are indications of a problem injector/s , low fuel pressure as well as electronics
obviously the mechanic did not use a scan tool to determine the problem area and is fixing by replacing
Take it to an accredited service center that works on your make of car, have the codes read first then get a quote for repairs
repairing by replacement is costly for you so find a shop that knows the procedure for trouble shooting

The battery could have one or more bad cells in it. It could be the alternator belt or the alternator itself.

My 2004 Kia Sedona is going through headlights like water. I am replacing them at least three times a year. What is the problem?

It may be that the alternator is overcharging, by delivering too high a voltage. If this is the case, it would also damage your battery. The charging voltage is not adjustable, and you would have to replace the voltage regulater, which is located inside the alternator. Before doing that, use a digital voltmeter, to measure the voltage at the battery terminals with the engine running at 1500 -2000rpm. The voltage should measure 14.2 Volts. If significantly higher, the regulater requires to be replaced.

What must be done to remove an alternator from a 2004 Kia Sedona? Does radiator have to be removed?

Yes, you'll need to remove the radiator. There are three bolts holding it on. 1 plug and 1 wire to a terminal with a 13 mm nut on it. It's a bear to get off. The only other way would involve removing the A/C compressor and removing the alternator from the bottom. I'm replacing a motor in a 2003 Sedona and it's tough!!!!

Code P0350 Ignition Coil Primary/Secondary circuit 2004 Kia Sedona

It could be the computer, but it could also be the wire. You can check the resistance of that wire, or simply use a known good wire to see if that is what it is.
