Hi pr princess, You have a dirty laser lens. Possibly other dust problems and hair and or lint. Your PS2 is dirty. If you have technical savvy, you can disassemble the PS2 and clean everything thoroughly. If you do not want to take on this tedious job, I can help you. Check out my website I will thoroughly detail your PS2, and clean the lens, plus test it with every kind of media it is supposed to run. I will give you a deal of $20 plus shipping. If you have slim model, the Slim could need a new laser since sony cut back on how hefty the laser is constructed. A new laser will run the cost of repair up $12. So $32 plus shipping. Total turn around is less than 10 days.

I have a PS2 Slim and it won't read discs. Every time I put a disc in it won't spin it will just go to the screen that says browser and system configuration. Please help me!!

1. DVD has lots of scratches
2. Regional Settings
3. Incorrect DVD settings for PS2
4. No/Incorrect Disc

1. Clean your discs well and avoid incurring scratches. Place it in
its box after use.
2. DVDs have encoding. They are encoded by regions. Thus, you cannot
play region 2 DVDs on a US Playstation mainly because the US
Playstation 2 can only read DVD that are encoded in Region 1 or
those DVDs that are encoded for all regions. Again, US PS2 are
region 1 capable. Japanese PS2s are Region 2 Capable.
3. There are a number of settings for the DVD playback of your
PS2. First is the rating of the DVD. If you want to watch a
rated R movie, make sure your PS2 allows viewing of R movies.
You'll be setting this during the first time that you'll be
watching a DVD. It's just the same as real theaters. It is also
protected with password so you need the person who set it up
the first time in order to bypass the rating settings.
4. Put in a DVD first and make sure that it is a Movie. And,
check #2.

PS2 wont play DVD movies!

Hi. It seems that you might have an old version of the PS2.

The original PS2's had a problem with the laser that read CDs and DVDs, often failing, creating problems with reading DVDs and in rare cases, CDs.

Unfortunately, the class action lawsuit filed against Sony is too old to get yours fixed for free, but there are ways to attempt to fix the laser yourself, if you would rather not send it in to Sony.

If you have any other questions, respond and I'll help you the best I can.

Good Luck!

Ps2 wont play DVDs

Your PS2 laser is wearing out. When the laser starts to go, first games will skip... then eventually the PS2 will stop reading DVDs altogether. If you keep using it to read CDs, it will eventually stop reading those too and the laser will die altogether. Here's a website that will help you identify your PS2 model, show you how to replace the laser, and they sell parts and do repairs too

Playstation 2 won't play DVDs

if it's a fat PS2 and
model SCPH 30001, SCPH 35001
(not including the models with an 'R' after the model #.

these models need the following to play DVDs:
- PS2 DVD remote with IR unit
- PS2 DVD disc player (sold with DVD remote w/ IR unit)
- PS2 memory card

you copied the DVD disc to the memory card. you used the memory card to play DVDs.

later models didn't need the memory card to play DVDs.

hope this helps :D
