Re: DVD Rom isn't reading discs

Hi, Only two things you can try: 1. Use a CD cleaner. Hopefully it's just a speck of dust covering the lens making it unable to read discs; 2. If that doesn't work, your best bet perhaps is to return the unit. Trying to open the DVD unit of the laptop will void any warranty you may have. Hope this be of some help/idea. post back how things turned up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.

What is the Lifespan of CD Drives? I have an HP dv7 that seems like the cd rom is not communicating well with the machine. Could it be software related?

Burning CD-R or DVD-R shortens the life cycle of any CD-R or DVD-R drive, while reading is generally. If you have burnt 1 disc per day, it is not surprising your DVD-RW drive is worn out.

1 detail to take into consideration: if you use ReWritable media, change them from time to time. I thought my DVD-Recorder was dead as I got a lot of non responding issue with DVD+RW media (while my computer had no problem to read these media), and finally getting rid off the old media and taking newer DVD+RW media has given the DVD-Recorder 3 more years.

My hp pavilion zd8000 laptop with XP installed will not allow me to load a golf game from a CD Rom I purchased some 14 years ago. I used to have this installed a nd played regularly on a previous computer.

The game may be not supported with the current Operating System Perhaps!!! What was your old computer's Operating system? And since the CD-ROM is 14 years old does it has too many scratch?? These days computer CD/DVD drives will never read the disc if they are scratched...

Finally, when you try installing the game, do you encounter any error message? if yes please post it....always remember if your posting your problem in forum, make sure that you provide all information about the issue.

Drive is unable 2 read any disc

Hi, try going into control panel then look for device manager, once in Device manager it will show you all the devices that your system has in it, look for your CD/DVD-ROM/RW, right click on it try disabling and enabling it by right clicking on the device disable and enable the Optical Drive, then restart you computer.

Also if the above does not work try Doing this in the regedit
1. Click Start
2.if you have vista or win7 just type redgit on the space where you can type in on the start menu, if you have XP on you computer, click Run after clicking start then type in regedit then click OK or press enter
3. on the regedit Screen HKEY Local Machine SYSTEMS
6.Click Current ControlSet
7.Click Control
8.Click Class, You will see a long list of Items look for {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} > this will be you DVD/CD-Rom the abovce CD/DVD-rom
10. on the right side will be a list of items look for upperfilter or Lowerfilters right click on both if both is present or one of them then click on delete then yes to delete the filters
11. Lastly restart your computer this may fix your concern.

but this fix is not 100% for a read issue you can also try reinstalling the operating system "Windows" on your system this will renew everything in your computer but NOTE that you will needto back up any data you have important on your computer this will reformat everything back to scratch.

Boot Disc's Not reading, Dvd rom help? or Xp/vista help?

How did you made it boot to the disc? if you used keystrokes to do so, it would be better if you go into your BIOS and set the boot priority making the dvd drive as priority and see if it is gonna work that way. If it does'nt you need to be concerned about the drive itself, it might be having problems as well.

Dvd rom not reading discs

did you clean the optical lens? if you do so, then you've got same problem,my suggestion is, you just purchase a new dvd rom drive, because your dvd has optical lens problem. it happened to me a long time ago with my client, what i did i open the laptop then i changed it with a brand new dvd rom drive. If you are going to repair that dvd it is not advisable, it might be back when the same problem.
