Electrolux 2100 canister vacuum

I recently bought a new motor for this vacuum. After laying in pieces for six months the markings that I used for the wiring connections just don't add-up. Do you have a wiring diagram for this vacuum? Thank you. Tom

Need to take apart Electrolux 2100 to replace motor. Can't find any screws. Also can't remove rear bumpers. Can anybody help???

I replaced the cord retractor assembly and THOUGHT I noted the wire locations like this: (From a position behind the vacuum I'll refer to Left and Right.) Left retractor pin gets gray wire going to the Power Lamp then on to the OnOff switch. Bottom retractor pin gets white wire going to common post between Power Lamp and Protection Lamp. Left motor pin gets 1 white wiresgoing to No Bag Lamp then on to No Bag Switch and 1 white wire to Power Head Contact. Right motor pin gets 1 yellow wire going to the Protection Lamp and 1 yellow wire to Power Head contact. On the OnOff switch, working left to right: gray from Power Lamp, 1 orange to common terminal of No Bag Lamp and Bag Full Lamp, and 1 orange to Bag Full Switch, Orange from OnOff, white to No Bag switch.

Now, the problem, I have is that when I connected it this way the Protection Lamp is on right away. So I thought maybe the thermal switch was faulty. When I removed the motor plastic housing there was a white wire to the thermal switch and a black to the motor both hooked to the right side motor contact that receives the yellow wires on the outside corresponding contact. On the left side there was a black wire going to the motor from the left motor contact that receives the corresponding white wires. The white wire to the left side of the thermal switch was disconnected and I cannot determine where it goes! Can anybody help on this? Thanks.

I forgot: there is a red wire on the right-most OnOff contact going to the common terminal of the No Bag Lamp and Bag Full Lamp. Also, the orange wire from the OnOff 2nd terminal goes to the Bag Ful Lamp, not the common terminal as I originally stated.

OldTechGuy here again....I solved this puzzle. Inside the plastic motor housing, the left side white thermal switch wire goes to the white wire at the bottom of the cord rewinder. What happened is this connector pulled out of the motor housing when I removed the old cord rewinder, leaving the wire dangling inside. The terminal has a dual-purpose connector that slides to the bottom of the rewinder connector, and the white wire that I had attached there slides on top. It's a difficult connection to make because the rewinder terminal must slide snugly to the bottom of the housing connector. Anybody want a diagram, I have one now. email me at

Open the door to remove the bag. Pull the side bumpers forward when the door is open. The profile of the edge of the top and the bottom of the vacum body is a "L" shape. The cross section of the bumper is a "I" and that holds the body together. Carefully lift up the top just a little to free the plastic end cap that conceals the cord spool. There are two plastic pins on the top and bottom that hold this piece on and they frequently get broken. (If that happens repair shops drill and hole and insert a screw.)
There is a plastic protector plate that lifts up on either end and then is slid about 1/8th inch clockwise and then up.
Copy the wiring pattern on the four male connectors on the motor and the wire spool.
Post your wiring diagram and it will solve a lot of people's problem trying to reassemble this machine's -- including mine.

How do i get the funky smell out of my 2100 electrlux

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Vacuums are supposed to help your home smell better, but when they don't there is definitely something wrong. Odors in vacuum cleaners can be caused by several things. If the vacuum is a bagged unit, replacing the bag often will help in minimizing any odors from debris caught inside the bag.

Keeping your unit's filters clean and replacing them periodically will also reduce unwanted smell in your unit. Washable filters are recommended to be washed at least once a month and replaced, as non-washable filters, every 3 to 6 months.

Finally, if your unit is a bagged unit you may benefit from using a scent tablet that you can put inside a new filter before running your unit. You can try these fresh scent tablets:

I need the Manual for #2100 Electroluks vacc

Service manuals for the Electrolux vacuums, including the accessories, are only available to the franchise owners and service techs.
Also, having said that, I don't recommend fixing the switch yourself. Replacing the switch involves disassembly of the canister, which is a bit complicated. Putting it back together correctly, without crimping wires. even more so.
I used to be an Electrolux service manager and have seen vacs brought in in pieces. Customers had succeeded in dismantling the machine, but were unable to reassemble it. Or had cracked or broken a piece. This makes the repair more expensive.
Or machines were brought it that had been reassembled incorrectly and wouldn't work. Or worse had shorted out due to crimped or incorrect wiring.
I strongly suggest taking the vacuum to a repair shop that is familiar with the older Electrolux vacuums, in this case the plastic models.

Electrolux 2100 vac dies when you attach hose even with new bag.

If the bag full light keeps coming on, you can first try adjusting the dial on top of the vacuum cleaner. If that does not work, then you need to change the control valve. This is an internal component of the canister and is directly below the dial. You will need to follow the instructions on a previous post to open the Electrolux plastic canister vacuum, and remove the bage cage. Once you remove the bage cage you can change the control valve, and this will solve your problem with the bag full indicator.

Electrolux model 2100 shuts off with slightest suction blockage

This is exactly the symptom you would expect from a defective bag control valve. The actual control valve sits under the dial on top of the vac and often cracks internally. It can be replaced in about 15 minutes by a good tech with genuine parts from AERUS Elctrolux dealer or repair center.
You can open the vac front to rear like a **** shell by sliding the bumpers out the front with the bag door open, however you must be careful not to disturb the wiring harness and to mark wiring locations. The body must be carefully realigned for closure. If it is not perfect you will not be able to slide the bumpers back in.

I have an older Electrolux canister vacuum - model #2100 and the temperature sensor shuts down the motor. How to I take apart and clean?

Check to be certain the thermo lite is on and not the bag full indicator. The thermo detector is very reliable, but the bag fill valve often fails. If it is the thermo, check your hose and wand for blockage by dropping a coin through them, before opening the vac itself.Otherwise you may have a bad set of motor bearings causing the motor to overheat due to its age.
The 2100 and all its canister cousins made since 1982 seem to be prone to failure of the dial valve on top cracking internally. The causes the bag full indicator to come on and the vac to shut down.
To open the vac you will need to slide the locking keys and bumpers forward with the bag door open. Do this with a set of pliers. Once done the vac will open from front to back like a **** shell. Be careful to look at the underside hinge are of the bag door before separating and mark and locate the wiring harness . This vac only goes back together one way, perfectly assembled it pops together with ease. If any piece is out of line it`s like a RUBIKS Cube. Take your time . OEM parts are only available through an AERUS Elctrolux dealer or repair shop

Electrolux canister vaccum 2100

The filter for your Electrolux 2100 is located on the rear top of the machine. It is covered by a plastic grill. You simply place your finger in the rear of the plastic grill, push the tab in slightly and lift the grill up to expose the filter. The filter is approximately 4" by 6". It is NOT washable. Most Vac Shops sell replacement filters in addition to them being available at the local Electrolux distributor.
