Help! I can't get my samsung dvd rec...

I've tried everything from the manual, I still can't seem to get it to record using a preset timed recording. It will record if i use the one touch method to record something I am watching. But we usually pre set it for timed recordings I its not working. If I insert the disc to edit, it shows the so called recording with the channel and the time that i set but when i try to play it screen is black, what the? I am using fuji dvd rw- discs
