Question about Maxtor / DiamondMax 10 / 80GB / 7200 / 8MB / ATA-133 / OEM / RoHS Compliant / with CA Des (890552605880) Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hard drive i have a hard drive caddy, which is usb.2 inside the caddy i have a maxtor diamond 10 model 6L300RO. i made a silly mistake of putting my laptop adapter in (20v) into the caddy (12v) causing the hard drive to blow, leaving that burning electric smell. The caddy still works, i've tried other Hard drives and they all work. Can my maxtor HDD be fixed? Thanks ILLCAT

Re: hard drive

It is possible, maybe. I've done similar and only blew a surface mounted diode on the drive's circuit board. I located a blown drive and took that diode from it, soldered it to the one I blew and it worked.

So yes, if you can do similar to what I've described above.
I have to tell you though, that's a longshot.

Our MAXTOR Onetouch 4 mini is not recognized by computer. Can your software recover the data?

could be several issues to cause this fault, make sure your usb port is usb 2.0, replace the usb cable, take the unit apart and look for loose conections, try the drive in another caddy, or try another drive in the maxtor caddy. You will probably be able to remove the drive from the caddy and connect it into your computer if you have a tower and the correct connections.

You will have burnt out the electric side of the external drive and possibley damaged the harddrive.

Your best soultion would be to buy a hdd caddy and remove the hardrive from the enclosure it is in and place it into the new caddy, plug it into the pc and see if you can still use it and see and recover your files.

If the above does not work. There is a chance you have damaged the drive as well and depending on you level of computer know how you can rebuild a hdd i came give you full details but it is a very complex process and has to be done in a sealed enviroment which is dust free.

All three lights are flashing

No experience with this model but if you open the enclosure there is a regular hard drive inside. You may be able to fit it inside a pc, or use a hard drive caddy to get at your stuff

a hard drive is a plate between to feelers. if a feeler is bend it will sound strange. but the problem is unless you know someone who has fixed one of these dont open yourself as you will lose everything on you harddrive if you make a mistake.

Not detect my 320gb hard drive why?

I presume this is using USB. Try plugging it directly into one of the USBs on the back of the computer. If it's in a hub it may not be getting enough power to spin up the dtive. etc.

Yes, If your partition isn't being recognized than windows has no way of reading the information. thats why windows create partitions to determine the amount of space and data being used. it anything try to access it in my computer and see if you can. if you can its possible to get you info, i recommend ananother external to transfer the data to or if its not that much info put it on a flash drive

Maxtor hard drive needs a chip replacing

Unless you can find the matching chip and are good at soldering these small parts, it can be replaced.

Typically, I would suggest looking for busted harddisks (of the same model) and if their board was still good, just do a direct swap. I did this for a Fireball model HDisk.

Or if their board is busted, you can get the chip from them and, like I said earlier regarding soldering, solder it onto your Hard disks. This is considering that the only part busted was this chip.

Hard drive

If you can find another working 6L300RO, you can try swapping the logic board from the working drive onto the dead one. Try this if all you want is to recover the data from the dead drive.
