Arcing blue sparks internally

Hello,I have a problem with my grandmother's tv.Sanyo DS 24425, started arcing blue sparks in the circuit board between what looks like a capacitor (grey w/ 2 red & 1 green stripe)to an picture adjuster with several wires and 2 adjustment knobs on it marked focus and screen. Where the capacitor(?) attaches to board is marked R405 on one end and R407 on the other. There is no picture/image. Any ideas? Repair procedure or cost estimates? Help- Thanks to anyone for their time. Jeff

Re: Arcing blue sparks internally

The thing which you have seen is resistance not the capacitor. whenever that goes hot or arcing it is due to heavy short ckt in tv. as you are not much aware of tv technology please caall skilled person to do it for you. please now do not start again unless it is repaired. otherwise it may be problematic. good luck.

Loud popping noise tv

EHT arcing takes place. Never switch the TV on, until this fault has been rectified. Doing so, will make too many other faults to occur. Contact any service technician.

I have unplugged because of smell and i could hear a crackling noise, i have completely unplugged but smell is getting worse, i the tv is 10 years old

It sounds that there is some arcing takes place inside it. High voltage arcing will produce and Ozone smell. Contact any TV technician. Never use this set at this condition. It might lead to more fault to internal circuit components.

When I turn the tv on, it sounds like static electricity coming from the back.

Check its final anode connection for arcing. You have to replace the final anode rubber boot, if arcing is here. Seek tech support. This is a dangerous work, for an un-experienced one.

No power

Hi there!

Where you saw the Arcing, check closer to see wether the components are not loose on the board. You may only have to resolder the joints and problem solved. If the arcing takes place towards the tube, then you have a more serious fault. Thus involving High Tension, so I would not advise trying to repair that area if you are not familiar with TV repairs. Please unplug set before commencing any work. Regards and good luck, JUS004

Replacing CRT neck socket after arcing problem.

Don't know what happened to the last post I sent you its disappeared.

What I think you should do is definately replace the CRT white socket (tube base plug).
You can either take the CRT number from the label on the tube & put it in to google then search for Crt base plug.
Or see if there is A repair shop local to you who can order the tube base for you.
Are you definately sure the arcing is external to tube & not happening in the tube neck ?
Is the CRT made by LG / PHILIPS. These are notorius for for arcing over internally I must write at least 1 A week off for this problem.

If you can still run the set try tapping the neck of tube with screwdriver handle if pic flashes or goes predominately1 colour you are looking at the tube with internal short.

If this is the case there are ways of trying to get rid of the internal short let me know what you find ?

Flyback transformer on television

Single white line across screen mean a vertical colapse. So you will need the vertical output and maybe a cap around 100uf@50v.

Crakling, snapping sound from back edge of circuit board. No burning smell. Sound continues after power is shut off and unplugged. Any suggestions?

If your flyback transformer has a pinhole in it, there will be snaps and flashes of light, but only when the set is on. If one of the parts in the primary circuits of the main power supply is arcing, it will stop once the plug is pulled from the wall. If you dim the lights in the room and take the back off, or look through the ventilation slots in the back, do you see any flashes of light, sparks or any type of arcing? You said the noise continues when the set if off and unplugged. Do you mean it keeps on going and going, or does it only continue for a second or two?

During dark images on my TV, several green lines are visible across the TV.

You may have an arc in the screen and focus circuits. Water may have gotten into these circuits causing a delayed reaction. (Circuits Corroded). These circuits at least part of them are a part of the high voltage transformer (flyback). Your picture tube socket has spark gaps inside of it too which may be arcing. You need to have it checked by a tech to find out just what is arcing. Stargazer
