I have a Sylvania TV that does not have a separate audio in/out connection. It only has 2 composite wire connections one on either side of the TV...I have a Sony DAV-BC150 5.1 surround system and a DirectTV box hooked up to the TV...my question is...How do I hook my TV up to this to be able to hear my TV through the surround sound? What additional products would I need? I know the manual says that if there are no audio in/out connections that this would not be possible but I did get it one time to do it a while ago by using a VCR BEFORE I had the DirectTV box? Can anyone help me? I would like to have the DirectTV box, the TV, and the surround sound hooked up all together.

- The receiver that is in this system only has 1 set of composite(red, yellow and white) ports and it does have a s-video port. My TV also has a s-video port. The DirectTV box has 2 sets of red, yellow and white ports and a s-video port. How do I hook this all up to be able to be able to see and hear both the DVD's and the TV. Sorry if I seem out right ignorant but I am not tech savvy at all. Would I need an s-video cord?

- My Sylvania TV in which the Sony BAC150 is hooked to DOES NOT have the seperate audio ports(red and white) It only has the composite ports(red, white, yellow) on the front of the TV and the back of the TV and a S-Video slot. My DirectTV box has a S-video port, and also two sets of composite ports(red, white, yellow) I previously had this surround system hooked to a TV that had the seperate audio ports but now it is on the blink and I am trying to figure out how to do this without this TV having those seperate ports....the Sony manual stated that if the TV did not have the seperate audio ports that hearing the TV through the surround sound would not be possible but I know that it can be done somehow I just don't know how.

Maybe I don't quite get what you're trying to do.

Unless you still tune programs off the air from the TV tuner and an antenna - what possible TV program would come into the TV that the DirectTV box wouldn't already provide high quality sound and video for? You should run the audio from the DirectTV box to the receiver.

- Still unclear – In your setup will your TV actually 'tune' anything or is it functionally just a monitor for the DirectTV box and whatever else you watch?

If the latter, it would not originate any sound or video so feeding it back to the receiver would be overkill.

You should leave the DirectTV box attached to the TV via its S-Video (DVD Only) ports. You’ll still have DTV video on your TV. Select the S Video input on the TV when watching DTV.

I assume the stereo audio from the DTV box is routed via RCA cables to the Video/SAT Audio In on the Sony. That’s all the BAC150 has. Select Video/Sat to listen to DTV through the Sony.

Run a single RCA cable from the Sony Monitor Video Out to one of the TV’s Composite Video In port. Select the Composite Video input on the TV when watching DVD or using the TV to monitor the receiver’s settings. Select DVD, I guess.

Only a 5.1 DVD will give you real 5.1 surround audio from the Sony. Other audio sources will only have simulated surround fields.

Does your TV have any audio inputs? It sounds strange that it would support component video and NOT have audio L/R. If it does have Audio In and your DTV box has more than one L/R Audio Out you could run a separate pair of RCA cables to the TV from it so you could casually watch DTV without involving the Sony. If the DTV box has only 1 Audio Out pair you can split it with RCA cable splitters and share it with the TV and the receiver.

- So what you’re saying is the TV has no possible way to originate audio. So what's the question?

My first comment on May 5 addressed WHY you would need to run sound from the TV back to the receiver. Had you answered it we may have already concluded this solution.

Give us a model number for the TV. Is your Sylvania TV a MONITOR? THAT would change everything.

If it's a monitor then it doesn't have a tuner or speakers and hence does not produce sound for channeling ANYwhere. That was asked again on May 7 and ignored. And you didn't actually say earlier that you were swapping a VERY different TV in for the one you used to have running through the VCR. Your original problem description implied you had THIS TV working through a VCR at one time. That would be impossible.
