Question about Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer

MAYTAG DRYER MDE5500AYW

My control board lights up but when you push the buttons nothing happens. It wont start or turn off, and if you unplug it and plug it back in it goes right back to the same settings. We were told it prob was control board. bought a new one and it does the same thing. we checked out the fuses, they all check out. we checked door switch, it seems fine. not sure what else can be checked. everything we check with ohm meter seems to check out fine. This just happened one day and i never had a problem before, its like the buttons are locked or something. thanks, jan

    yes we tested the door switch, well we bought a new one and it didnt change anything. and the thermal fuse has power when you check it with the meter. and i was told if the fuse checks out with the meter than it is still good. right?

Have you checked the door switch, thermal fuse on the heater housing(this will keep it from starting).

    Check it with and ohmmeter and see if its open (non-continuitous) or closed (continuitous). Checking voltage can lead to misdiagnosis. Or just try putting the wires together. Here is a service diagnostic test but you will still have to verify the fuse is good. Accessing Service/Diagnostic Mode:
    Pressing down the damp dry and time (-) keys
    for 5 seconds places the machine in the
    diagnostic mode
    then press wrinkle release for any stored codes
    scroll through with the + and - time keys
    Here is the touchpad/membrane check

    While in system check mode, pressing the
    damp dry and sensor dry keys for 5 seconds,
    will start a membrane pad switch test.
    The membrane check involves turning all the
    embedded LED on the membrane pad on.
    All the LED?s can be toggled off by pressing
    the key associated with the LED. To exit the
    test at any point, press the damp dry (>) &
    sensor dry keys again for 5 seconds or press
    the off key to exit diagnostic mode.

We had the very same problem. First I did the whole unplug to reset thing and nothing changed. Then I took the control panel loose and unplugged all the plugs on the printed circuit board to look for corrosion. The pins all looked fine as well as the female of each plug. I put it all back together and everything worked fine for around two months I reckon. Now the problem is back. Unplugged each plug and put a little bulb grease on all the pins and reassembled it. Seems the problem is fixed again. Time will tell for how long. Obviously it is a connection problem on the printed board.

Maytag dyer problems


it sounds like the control board is going bad but i wouldn't buy any parts for this dryer,soon you won't be able to get parts for it,put the money into a new dryer not to mention that the neptune products is what took maytag out and now whirlpool owns maytag.you could also have a problem with one of the connections or a bad wire in one of the connections and when you move the wires it's working again and this could be from the heat,after years the wires get brittle,you could buy the new board,put it in and if it's a wire you're back to square one,but from what you say it's either a wire in one of the connections or the board.good luck with your dryer.

Maytag Neptune MDE5500AYW panel lights work but not dryer


inside the control panel is a tech sheet that has some diagnostics on it . there is a membrane button test or something to that effect. I suspect that the start/pause button is the problem and you would need to replace the console w/touchpad.about $130-140 new. there are some used ones on ebay.

My Maytag dryer model number MDE5500AYW has lights on, but won't switch settings. It is stuck in time dry at 18 minutes. Yesterday it was on sensor dry 47 minutes. Do I need a new control board inside...


OK, your control board and LED are integrated, so you will need to just replace the control board. I would try a hard reset before replacing the board. Pull the plug or, shut down the appropriate breaker switch for 5 minutes. Re apply power after the 5 minutes are up. if you continue to experience this fault, replace the control board asap.

My maytag neptune dryer has the start button flashing but when push it nothing happens. I unplugged it and it is stil flashing when plug back in.


Did you have any power surges latley? Sounds like the control board is faulty. I think this model has a control board in the top counsel. Hopefully this helps

pf means power failure. your dryer uses an extra boost of power on start-up and your is failing to get this boost you need a repair person in your area
