Question about Rosetta Stone Spanish (Latin American) - Level I: Personal Edition Full Version for PC, Mac
This will fix IF you are running a personal firewall:
Enable the Rosetta Stone app to communicate within a trusted area. This lets the app send data to the computer that it is running on. An example might be port 127.0.0.x. You can still block it from communicating with the internet if you like.
In my case, I run the Sunbelt Personal Firewall. I went into its configuration panel, clicked on the Network Security tab, and found the Rosetta Stone Ltd. executable entry. Then I ensured that a green "permit" checkmark appeared under the Trusted Out column. Apply and close. Restart RS and the speech component should work.

For me this problem was cause by my firewall blocking Rosetta stone from accessing the internet. From what I can gather, there are two components running at the same time communicating through tcp/ip (ie it doesnt really need to connect to the internet just uses the gateway to pass info back and forth)
Solution.Go into your firewall and let Rosetta stone access the internet!
