Re: does not copy large files

Sounds suspicsouly like a memory problem. When you allocate bad memory it will reboot your pc :)

Few things to check. First disable auto restarts on windows crashes. Do the following. (Assuming windows XP)

Right click My Computer
go to Properties
Click the Advanced tab
Click Settings for "Startup and Recovery"
Under "System Failure" Uncheck Restart

Now copy the files again and report back with the error code you get. IT will be something like 'yad yada yada 0x0000024'

You may want to also download memtest86, burn that to a cd and restart your pc. It will tell you if your memory is bad. Just look for red lines that say bad :)

Sounds like there are sectors of the drive are failing. Chkdsk can help mark those as not usable. If drive is old and problems persist then consider getting a new one.

What does memorex dual layer dvd+r mean? How do you record a movie that is over 130 min. We purchased 240 min just for this reason and we can not get it to record over 120. How do you finish recording the...

Well all DVD+R mean that when you finish copying files to the disk, the disk will lock itself and not allow any more files to be burned onto that DVD. The reason why you can'f fit your movie onto the disk is because the movie file may be bigger than the amount the DVD disk can hold. Just because the time of the movie is less than what the DVD can hold, doesn't mean its going to fit. Take for example a Blue ray movie, it may only be 120 minutes long but the file of the movie can be over 2 GB of space.

I have a .pst file that is 5 GB which I am trying to copy to a sandisk flash drive cruzer 8 GB. I keep on getting an error message stating the the file is to big for the destination file system. What...

Two possibilities:

1. you already have more than 3GB of files on the SANDISK.
So, delete some files, or "burn" them to a CD/DVD disk,
so that you have at least 5 GB of "free" space available.

2. the "file-system" (the way that the "table-of-contents" is laid-out on the SANDISK) limits the size of a single file to 2GB.
The "file-system" on your 'C:' drive does *NOT* have that identical limitation (it does have a "maximum-file-size", but it is MUCH larger).

Open Outlook, and "compress" all the folders.
Perhaps, the PST file will shrink to less than 4.7 GB.
If it does, then you can "burn" that file onto one DVD-writable disk.

Trying to drag and drop a movie file to my flash drive but cant drop the movie file

It is one of the disadvantages if the file is large enough that the cache or temp file from your computer can't able to handle. Much better to highlight the file/s and have to either copy or cut then paste it to the destination folder or drive.
