Question about GE 24 in. GSD2000Z Built-in Dishwasher

Spotty dishes Hi. I recently bought a new home only to find that we have very hard water.( I believe it was 23) Unfortunately, we do not have a whole house filter/softner yet, and it affects everything. Right now I am wondering if I wash my dishes in the dish washer with vinegar, will that work to get them clean and eliminate the hard water spots and clouding? Also, do you have any suggestions for doing the laundry? I have gotten filters for my showers, since it felt like I was swimming every time I showered. Apparantly, chlorine is an issue too!

There are no filters to change the hardness of your water permanently. You really do need to acidify your water. The best option is to store your incoming water and apply buffers. Vinegar would indeed bring down the pH but it smells funny. If you add citric acid then this is more like a natural remedy and has no odour. You can buy his from brewers suppllies. Fruit contains citric acid. If you store the water somewhere then after a few hours the chlorine will dissipate out of the water.

Check your hot water supply. It should be at least 125 degrees. Are the dishes spotty or still dirty with old food? Try to pre-rinse your dishes before putting them into the dishwasher. You can also run your hot water until it's nice and hot coming from the sink before turning your dishwasher on. If they're spotty, use less or better quality detergent. My guess is going to be water temperature or pressure.

Spotty, filmy glasses

Even if you are sending it 120 degree water from your hot water heater, if the internal heating element has failed, your will get poor cleaning, including a film on your glassware.
Replacing the heating element will almost certainly fix the problem.
Good Luck!
