Open Windows Explorer, and then locate the drive or folder you want to share. Right-click the drive, and then click Sharing and Security. To open Windows Explorer, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer. To change the name of your folder on the network, type a new name for your folder in the Share name text box. This will not change the name of the folder on your computer. To allow other users to change the files in your shared folder, select the Allow other users to change my files check box.

    To make your folders private:
Open My Computer, Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive (C:), unless you have more than one drive on your computer. If the contents of the drive are hidden, under System Tasks, click Show the contents of this drive. Double-click the Documents and Settings folder. Double-click your user folder. Right-click any folder in your user profile, and then click Properties.
On the Sharing tab, select the 'Make this folder private so that only I have access to it' check box.

    Using Shared Folders

    2.
In the console tree, click Shares.
    Where?
Computer Management > System Tools > Shared Folders > Shares
    3.
On the Action menu, click New File Share.
    4.
Follow the steps in Create Shared Folder.

You will be prompted to select a folder or drive, type a new share name and description of the shared resource, and set permissions. After you provide this information, click Finish.

Tip

Belkin F5D7234-4 v1 (important thing)

In Belkin f5d7234-4 v1(only version 1) router, do not disable "WiFi protected setup" learn more about wps
  • If you do so, then the router will no longer work in 90% of cases.
  • The WiFi protected setup is enabled by default in this model.
  • The computers using XP,vista,win7 may not connect to the wireless network. 96cff88.jpg
Solution:
In that case you can add the wireless network manually in the computer.Still if it says error message as "windows cannot connect",then follow these steps according to your operating system.

WINDOWS XP:
Start>
Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections(Network connections)>Right Click Wireless Network Connection icon>Click on Properties>authentication tab>uncheck IEEE authentication

WINDOWS VISTA:
Start>
Control Panel>Network and Internet (Network and Sharing Center)>On your left hand side click on Manage Network connections>Right Click on Wireless Network Connection icon>Click on Properties>authentication tab>uncheck IEEE authentication

WINDOWS 7:
Start >
Control Panel>Network and Internet (Network and Sharing Center)>On your left hand side Click on Change Adapter Settings>Right Click on Wireless Network Connection icon>Click on Properties>authentication tab>uncheck IEEE authentication

  • Now try to access wireless network.
  • If it still says windows cannot connect then no other go.
  • You need to disable WiFi protected setup. This will fix the issue for sure...

How do i secure my belikn from outsiders using it

Hi Friend,
U need to make your wireless network a security enabled network & don't share the wireless network key to a unreliable person.

Steps to create a security enabled wireless network:-

1> login to router setup page;bydefault ip address of belkin router is 192.168.0.1/192.168.2.1
2> Open a internet browser on a hardwired desktop/laptop connected to your router, clear the address bar completely and then type 192.168.0.1 or, 192.168.2.1<it depends on your model no of your router>
3> Go to Wireless Tab,changed the wireless network name(SSID)
4> Change the wireless network key as well;it will be good if you use WEP key if you old XP computer, otherwise use WPA-TKIP if you vista/win7 computers
5> Lastly on your computers, you have to seach wireless network name & give the wireless network key(for the very first time)

In case of any clarity feel free to contact belkin tech support

Belkin N+N storage router doesn't work wirelessly

Hi, I had something like that with my Belkin Router N+N with USB F6D6230-4 V1, only I had a configuration wit a wired XP pc, Wireless XP and Wireless Vista. With both XP pc’s it was really plug and play, but with the Vista pc I had some problems to access the on the router connected USB drive. The Vista pc was connected to the network, and had Inet access. Other shared (network) drives were accessible on the Vista pc.

The first thing I tried was if I could access the drive trough its IP address, (\\routerIP in my case \\192.168.2.1), and I did get a question for a username and password. The only thing is that I tried all the regular names like Admin, Administrator, and so on, with my password but I did not get access.
On the internet there was no help to find for this model router on the Belkin websites (diverent country’s), the data on the Belkin websites is out of date, there is no support to find for new models. ………. So finely I did took the phone and did call the support desk…

Solution to my problem:
The problem seems to be in the Belkin storage manager program, that program works not correct under Vista. When I enter the routers IP and use the username “guest” without a password, it get access to it from my Vista pc. The follow thing I did was press the right mouse button on the drive, and press on “make connection” So..

\\RouterIP
Username : guest
Password : none

Hope, that this is also the solution to your problem.

Problem with downloading router driver/firmware

You don't need software for the router. Is your wireless encrypted or open? Just view avaiable networks with your xp machine and choose your network to connect to. If you do have an encrypted signal use the vista machine and type in the ip address to the router in your browser window. I think belkins router ip is 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.1 Hope this helps, let me know

Belkin Pre-N Wifi - Speed problem

Hi,

When using a laptop that has a N-wireless card the computer will to connect to a G-wireless router the laptop will be able to connect but because the router is a G-wireless the speeds will not be as fast. speeds around 10 to 20 Mbps is about normal. I don't know why your computer is saying that you are getting speeds around 108 Mbps. Residential computers don't reach speeds that fast but some business computers running off of an T-3 internet will have speeds up to that high so that they can keep up with large amount of data being transferred over there networks. As for the USB, i have seen an USB adapter that was g-wireless at at Wal-mart for about $20-30.

Wireless network security

alright... it does depend on the model of belkin itself but here goes... assuming you have windows since most people with mac are QUITE familiar with PCs Open an Internet Explorer window on your computer and type in http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar. This will take you to the Belkin router's web based configuration page. You will get a login page. Leave the password blank. Click Submit .On the left side of the page, click Channel and SSID below Wireless . . set it to have a wireless password... (again the exacts depend on your model) by doing this a computer must have that password you made to access the connection.. now depending on you computers operating system(ie: windows 95,98,200,ME,NT,XP vista or a mac) will depend on how you put this "password" into your computer... windows- START-CONTROL PANEL-(network and internet options)NETWORK CONNECTIONS-VIEW AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS and when you try to reconnect to your internet connection you will be prompted for the password... IF however your wireless adapters have their own wireless clients then you will have to contact their tech support instead of that last paragraph heres the number to belkin tech support in case your router will not allow you into the interface 1 800 2BELKIN x2263
