Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer was making a screeching noise that lasted about 2 seconds when it is started. That noise has stopped but now it makes a whirring sound.
Take the bottom panel off, you'll see a metal duct that the lint filter slides down into, there's a blower wheel behind the duct,if the wheel cracks or gets loose where it connects to the motor shaft it can make this sound, start the dryer and listen to see if the noise comes from there.if you can't tell unplug the dryer, pull out the lint filter and then take out the screws that hold the metal duct in place and remove it,now you can see the blower wheel, spin the drum by hand and see if the blower wheel moves with the drum and belt.if it looks fine stop spinning it and grab the wheel and see if it feels loose,if it is you will be able to tell.also while you have the duct off clean it out,you should take it off at least once a year and clean it out, then vac out the cabinet and blow out your vent line with a leaf blower if it's long, just remove it from the back of the dryer, stick a leaf blower into the vent line and blow it out.go outside first and make sure the outside duct is clear,no cage or anything that will block the lint from blowing outside.if the blower wheel is ok then the noise could be the belt roller or belt pulley, thety sell a kit with all the parts together but usually when someone says it's making a whirring sound it most likely is the blower wheel.hope this helps.
go here and look at the diagram, you'll see part number 37 in the diagram this is the blower wheel part number 697772

sounds like your bearings have gone at the back off your drum behind the small middle panel try turning it by hand if it starts scrapping straight away then u need to replace the bearings m8
SOURCE: dryer makes screeching noise runs for awhile then shuts off.
The 1,5 year new dryer makes a terrible screaching noise when it has a load of clothes in it. It still dries fine, no problem with the heating element. No noise without clothes, only when it has a load.

Hi Peggy...
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication, or maybe your belt has slipped off of the idler arm pulley.
If you have a front loading machine,
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
BE REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

Could be one of 4 problems:
All of the above are easy do at home repairs if you re handy. You should be able to get a good idea of what is wrong just by turning the dryer drum by hand. If the problem is the front bearing or guides, you will hear a grinding noise in the front at the top of the door.
