Same problem here, defrosted the refrigerator twice with same results. I'll post if I find out exactly what the problem is.

Freezer works, but lower part not cooling at all. Stopped working, then 2 months later miraculously started working again only to quit again 3 weeks later. Would like to fix it permanently but have no idea what to do. thanks.

I have the exact same problem. The refrigerator works for 8 months and then stops working. I got a Sears Technician and he charged $175 and did nothing and then it started working again and it was fine for 7 months. Now, Again it is not working. Any ideas? email me if you have solution: puliyurnarayanan@hotmail.com

Had trouble finding a diagram with this model # but most common defrost problems are bad defrost thermostat, timer/control board, or a little more rare is the defrost heater.

Water building up in bottom of fridge

more than likely you have a clogged drain. This occurs when the machine goes into defrost and the melted ice somehow is prevented from draining and therefor refreezing and blocking the drain for the next defrost cycle. Over time it gradually builds and starts voer a larger area. Being you have a top mount refrigerator(freezer on top) there are air ways that connect the freezer to the fridege, which is how its cooled. The best way to resolve this is to unplug the machine for atleast 24-48 hours to let all ice melt
If thats not an option that you want to use the actual repair method would be to 1) unplug the machine 2) empty everything out of the freezer so you'll have room to work 3) take all the shelving and baskets out 4) locate the screws on the rear wall inside the freezer and remove them 5) take the back panel off exposing the evaporator coils ( the aluminum ) 6) directly below the coils is a trough of sorts and the drain is usually in the middle and runs out the bottom, remove the ice by carefully chipping it out or by using a hair dryer or hot water. 7) once all the ice is gone, the drain is visible and water can flow smnoothly down the drain dry the area and reassemble.

Hello,

Quite often when the door gets open for a extended period of time the vents in the ceiling of refrig.compantment where the cold air from the freezer enters the ref.section...by looking up in the rear of the ref.ceiling you should be able to see these vents and see if they are frozen..if they are frozen a hair blow dryer will thaw them

Where here in the east coast are ya im 20 miles north of the epicenter in dumfries va

Magic Chef refrigerator is only cooling to 52 degrees

Typically, the fridge gets its cool air from the freezer via a vent. There's something blocking that vent. If it's nothing obvious (e.g. plastic bag) on either side, then it's possible it could be ice build up inside the vent. Put your perishables in a cooler and unplug the fridge for 12-24 hours to allow it to melt. If there's still a blockage, the vent will have to be dismantled to see what's wrong.

Frosts up wont get cold MCBR1000S

If freezer is icing up, you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Our Magic Chef fridge model # MCBR1000W does not seem to be keeping the fridge part cool enough, but still keeps the items in the freezer section frozen. The compressor is working, so not sure why this is...

yes the freezer door not closing properly will effect the refrigerator. also check in the freezer back wall and bottom for any frost buildup. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
