Also, make sure your jumper coax, the small piece of coax between the cb transmitter and the meter, is good, no broken center coax.

The signal meter would go into the antenna path something like this:

Now that being said I would check my setup by removing the meter and seeing if the radio works. If it does the meter might have a problem. If the meter is good check your connections and make sure nothing it shorting out to ground (use an ohmmeter to determine if something is shorted to ground).

recheck that you have the wiring correct. you will need the wiring of the cobra 2000/148gtl/grantxl... can't remember the pin outs. what you have posted is not the correct one??? i think.

Cobra 18 wx st cb problem

Sounds to me like your finals in the rig have blown stopping you using the CB mode, Either that or you have a loose connection on the power output inside the radio.

Cobra 148GTL

Hello k007,

It sounds like you may have damaged the RF power amplifier stage of the CB. Since you were adjusting the antenna characteristics. Did you have a SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) meter connected while you were tuning the unit? If you did you might have noticed the needle go past the 1.2 mark when you were adjusting the antenna or the unit itself. In any event I think that the RF power Amp is shot.

Thank you,
