I bought a brand new 13 hp Tecumseh on my rider,was trouble from day one,fought it tooth and nail,finally took to shop,they put a brand new Taecumseh carb on it,couldn't get it to run,went to a dinky lawn mower shop,was told the carb was not the right one,wow,they sold me a used one that looked way different,but it worked super,so try another non-tecumseh carb or fight it forever.

you need engine numbers, carb numbers... something
but take those numbers over to parts tree dot com and look up your engine.

You can find a free diagram at www.sepw.com, use the part number of the carburetor as a model number under tecumseh brand lookup. Your carb part number is 640065a.

Contact the number at the upper right of the page if you can't find a schematic close to yours. They may send you one for free if they have it.

what exactly do you want to know? Carb. mixture settings are as follows: L-head engines

Tecumseh carbs.........mainscrew 1 3/4 turns idle screw 1 1/4 turns
Walboro carbs........... mainscrew 1 1/2 turns idle screw 1 1/4 turns

L-head and OHV heavy duty engines 1 turns for both

I will try again here.
1 wire link from the top hole in the governor arm to the throttle on the carb. There should also be a wire link with a spring that goes from the Governor arm to the speed control handle.

YES THE CARBURETOR CAN BE OVERHAULED
THE REPAIR KIT PART # IS 31840 , THE BOWL IS REMOVED BY REMOVING THE BRASS NUT ON THE BOTTOM WITH A 7/16" WRENCH.YOU MAY NEED TO REMOVE THE WELCH PLUGS FOR A GOOD CLEANING. NEW PLUGS COME WITH KIT. YOU CAN SOAK CARB. IN CLEANER SHOULD BE NO LONGER THAN 15 MINUTES. ALWAYS USE NEW GASKETS. ADJUSTMENTS TO BE DONE WHEN ENGINE IS WARMED UP.

You'll need the model and serial number and also the carb will be helpful, if you take that info and the carb to your local lawnmower shop they will be able to supply you with the right kit.
