  • liloinky Nov 07, 2007

I have the same exact problem! I press power and the tv will turn on for a second and then turn off. I check the power and it's fine... it has nothing to do with the cable box or the outlet... can anyone shed any light on the situation? It just started happening out of nowhere, it was working fine just this morning.

  • mchez2886 Nov 07, 2007

I also have the same problem. It happened to me last year at the same time, then I put it in the trunk of my car and brought it home from school. When I got home, it worked. So I brought it back to school and it worked for the rest of the year. Two days ago, it is doing the same thing again. Push the button on and it goes on for approximately 2 seconds, then shuts off. No idea why. Any suggestions?

I have a Sylvania 6313CB 13in. TV/VCR Combo which keeps turning off every 5 seconds. How can I fix this?

  • usadanes Nov 25, 2007

We are having the same problem as everyone else here. The TV will start up just fine, but after less than what seems like 30 seconds, it shuts off automatically. We did nothing to the TV and have no idea what could be causing the issue. If anyone has a solution, please post it! Thanks!

  • jejenkin Nov 27, 2007

Same deal. When I turn mine on I get a flash of white, green, red, and blue light in the middle of the bottom of the screen along with the picture for less than a second before it turns itself off again.

Model: Toshiba MD20F51 20 in TV/DVD Combo (for anyone who can't read the title of the thread)

  • KLYN21 Nov 30, 2007

I have had this TV for almost 3 years... and today I turned it on and maybe 15 minutes later it turned itself off and I thought it was the electricity was failing, but it wasn't. I tried to turn it on and it turned itself off again just a minute or less later. It makes that slightly high-pitched static noise, it should make, when it turns on and off but it just keeps flashing off, just a few seconds after I turn it on. I believe we are all having the same problem. I have checked the outlets, cords, cables, and batteries. Everything is good. Its just the physical tv that turns off and shuts off the picture as well.

I have the 6720fdg and it is doing the same thing. As soon as you turn it on the the screen lights up and you can change channels and within 20 seconds it acts like the power was shut off. Sometimes if i unplug it for a few hours i can get about 10 to 15 minutes out of it. It is a shame, the tv is only about a year old.

Toshiba MW27FP1 is the tv that I own. It has always worked fine but now is comes on for about 2 seconds and then shuts down. Nothing happened prior to this problem starting to occur. It seems that this is happening alot to other peoples televisions.

    Please advise of possible repairs.

We have a sylvania 6727dg, its 27 inche analog/digital DVD tripple combo. I think my son did something to the VCR and now it does work.Every time you put a tape in, it shuts off. Which i am not happy about but its ok with. Now, the problem is that the VCR seems to think there is tape in there, so it shuts off in less then 20 sec on its own. It just won't stay on. Does any one know how to disable the VCR??

  • kb1453 Apr 20, 2008

I just put a video cassette (I know it's lame but I wanted to watch an old movie). Anyway, the video went in fine, but will not play and will not eject, then the TV turned off. When I try to turn it back on, it just turns off after a few seconds. I unfortunately threw away the manual for the TV, so I am not sure of the model number, but it's pretty old (probably from 2000) and is a TV/VCR combo. I was hoping for a quick and easy fix. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!

My TV is about 2 and a half years old, and for some reason it's struggling to turn on. It goes from the stand-by red button to the blue start up and then the timer light next to the start-u/stand-by button goes green, the screen flashes on momentarily and then the blue start-up light comes back on. It's only just started to happen. At first I thought a power cut may have meant that I needed to retune my channels, but the TV doesn't stay on long enough for me to get the menu up!. Please help if you can

I wonder if it's a solder joint. Several people said it worked for a while after they moved it. That's one of the symptoms of bad joints, they're sensitive to mechanical vibration. Next time it shuts down hit it firmly. Then try to turn it on. If it stays then it's most likely a bad solder joint somewhere. If you don't fix it it could cause other things to fail, but it will definitely get progressively worse until hitting it won't keep it going more than a few minutes.

Just my guess.

I solved my problem I had emerson combo vcr and when a tape is inserted it worked so I just keep a old tape in the slot and the tv will stay on and play fine as soon as I remove the tape the tv will shut itself off after seconds. just will not stay on so try putting a tape or disc in and see if your set plays and if it does just keep a old tape or disc in the slot while you watch tv. It is a circuit board problem and too expensive to fix but I like the little set and the vcr which we like still works fine I just have to always have a tape in or it will turn itself off. thanks for all the tips hope mine helps someone else.

I was told by a repairman that this is a common problem with combo sets, esp Toshiba. He said that it's a problem with the board and would coast about $125 to fix--more than what I paid for the unit.

I found that if I unplug the TV for a day or so, then plug it in it seems to work for a while, there must be a sensor or something in there. I also leave it unplugged when I am not using it seems to be a temporary fix

Keep the TV unplugged when you are not using it, this seems to be a temporary fix..............must be a sensor or something screwy in the set works fine if I just keep it unplugged when not in use

I just started to have this problem 2 days frustrating. Then discovered it would still play a tape. Everytime I took the tape out it would only stay on seconds then turn off. My solution I put an old tape in the vcr I have EWC1301 tv vcr combo. Now as long as a tape is in and stopped but not ejected the tv will stay on. So the old tape is staying in and I am watching the tv. I can still watch a tape if I want I just have to keep a tape in to watch the tv. Maby this would help some of the others. Don't know what made it start or how to fix it but at least this let me watch the tv. from dplongwith

Inspiron 518 - intermittent power up, amber light blinks once and then stays off

Usually if it has boot issues it is from the ram memory ..specially if it does like you said ..only ask for repeated action when it is cold..So , check the ram memory to be well plugged in ..and if you made changes , check for the specs on the newer ram module and be sure it is not on a higher speed or so ..cause it will not read it well and issues will be caused by it ..
another thing can be some bad points on the hard disk ..and if you get a bad on the system it may fail to load for good..The idea is to reinstall the operation system from scratch using a boot-able disk ..and this may fix the issue for the moment ..until it will be stuck with a system file in a weak point ..
The reinstalling is recommended also in case you added more ram memory and never reinstalled This action will force the computer to recognize the ram memory in proper way and run better ..
If you see it is always makes issues when you put it to sleep mode or shut down may enable the hibernate mode (from the power management panel ..(somewhere near the screen saver settings in the desktop properties ) ..and after that select for the actions when you press the main button to go to hibernate mode..This mode will always save what you have running and it is slightly different from the shut down cause it saves the running program and teh configuration used on moment ..and just load back the same way ..and it may force it to use the same points on the hard disk all over again when it starts ..
I used this mode on computers with hard disk issues and it always worked better than starting over again ..
I hope it was helpful and please do not forget to rate my answer ..
Have a good day !

Overheating from dust

These sets rarely shut down from dust. Chances are that the Temp sensor has failed. It is located on top of the lamp housing on the Light Engine. To test this you must locate the temp sensor and short with a test lead or wire across the two terminals and make sure the interlock switch is held in the up position, then turn on the set and see what happens. If the set stays on then the temp sensor is bad. If the set still shuts down then and goes straight to "Stand By" the you have a bad power supply. Make sure you have a good Lamp installed as this can cause the same symptom.

Screen will not stay lit

Check in the POWER OPTIONS section of the control panel if the display timeout for inactivity is too short. This is ONLY if the machine remains running.

If the whole unit is shutting down then likely your charger is not being effective. This problem can be with the charger OR the charging system on the motherboard of the laptop.

Shut down computer but some lights stay on

Your are not "shutting down" the laptop. It is going into "Stand-by" mode.

When you want to shut down,
select [Start]
then select "Shut down" and not "Stand-by"

The power button will also work.
When you want to shut down,
Press the power button and nothing else.
The laptop will log you OFF and "shut down"
