Disc Player not working (by 21 users)

posted by enihsnus on Oct 06, 2007

Hello
My sharp is running through all the 5 disc's and then when it is done it's saying "no disc" in the end.I cannot stop it from running through every one of them. I have tried many cd's and have "reset" the player but it still won't read them. I purchased and used a lense cleaner to no avail.I have not used the player much but it has sat unused for about a year. Can anyone help?

Thanks

My RCA RS 1285 Gives me a no disc message. I opened up the unit and could get it to work by giving the disc a spin. It seams that the jaws are not grabbing the disc correctly. Is there an adjustment??

Maybe it's dust & dirt on laser lens, and lens cleaner can't help. You should try to clean it with some alcohol and cotton.

This didn't work for me on my GE Spacemaker but it has worked on other cd players occasionally. The slide that the laser eye is on can be forced to move with a tooth pick or other tool. Just move it about a quarter of an inch without touching the eye itself and then try a disc again. You can't hurt it if it's broken already!

Came here to find a solution for my used, dirt cheap Sharp CDC 2600 3 disc changer "No Disc" error message. Discs would shuffle through the player before the error message was displayed.
Solution: I noted the pick up mechanism and laser were trying to read the outer edge of the disc, not the center. I then removed the disc tray and adjusted it so the laser read the center of the disc. Problem solved. Works fine now.

Hate to be stupid, but what slide the laser eye is on?

I did try the alcohol wash, to no avail. Maybe it is just worn o ut, but it is only about 2 yrs. old. Thanks for trying.

This model contains a Cheap Poor Disk changer mechanism that goes out of time, gears slip and mechanism gets lost, if one was repairing this item one would quote replacement of cd changer assembly which would cost more than machine is worth not that i can even find replacement parts for it.

Barring replacement you would set aside a day, buy the service manual, and remove covers then remove the fantastic plastic cd changer, then you would take pics so you know how it goes back together, and strip it of its mechanical parts, clean them ( you will find hair/dust stopping and misguiding the plastic parts from a smooth operation), grease with plastic grease, clean switchs and reset to home position, reassemble it, only to have it do it again another time. Poor designed stuff, not made to last I'm afraid.

Link to purchase service manual

These sold from $200 to $60 bucks so what does one expect, they are cheaply made, here is link to another lot of people with same problem, stop spending time and money on it, they are not worth the time nor frustration. It can never be fixed, you may get it going, but again it will break

If your really really desperate to make it work, spray the darn thing like a bug with W.B. 40/Compressed air/contact cleaner, run a few cycles and try your luck.

Sorry no magic fix from here, just trying to tell it as it is.

Mine keeps spitting the disks out, I put the disk in and it chucks it back out as if it's the wrong way round :(

Comment by Crew Chief, posted on Mar 31, 2008

I'm having the same problem; CD's will not load it checks all five then states that there is no CD installed, this started as occasionally it would skip a disk now it's all five. I tried to run a disk cleaner CD but that also would not load, i have no idea how to get to the lens to try to clean it. Everything else still works. Any help would be appreciated.

Player won't read the discs. Have tried the same techniques. Still does not solve the problem.

I have the same problem:(

Comment by For Pets, posted on Dec 07, 2007

My problem is just exactly like the others.

Have a JVC CD, radio and cassette player. Put the Cd's in - have tried one, two and three. Doesn't matter. In a minute, it tells me there are no CD's there. Can anyone help? Have tried cleaning the unit and nothing seems to help. Thanks

I am having the same problem as several others.
Have a JVC stereo/radio combo. Put three discs in and it goes through all 3, in about a minute and then tells me there are no discs in the player. Can anyone suggest anything, other than throwing it out of the window?

Comment by Guest, posted on Dec 06, 2007

I have the MCD702. I insert a CD, player attempts to LOAD, ends up saying "NO DISC" even though there is a CD in the player. Tuner works, as does the Auxiliaries. Tried compressed air on the lens, will try swabbing with alcohol.

Can't get the CD player to work consistently. Sometimes it plays but ususally does not.

Will not read discs, have used disc cleaner , still reads no disc

Comment by SILLY D, posted on Dec 02, 2007

Every component works on my stereo, the only thing ids the cd player, as soon as you pu the cd in the tray it closes, then it says reading, but in actuallity it's not reading, 'cause it's not making the noise when the cd is being lifted and read or spining. Then it just says "NO DISK". someone please help, we bought a cleaner with the brush on the disk but it didn't work. It's a good stereo and has not been used in about 7 months, would like to fix the problem, but not fix it and pay more then it's worth.

Comment by Guest, posted on Nov 28, 2007

all components work except cd. i have tried a lens cleaner, but to no avail. when i try to play any disc, it looks like it is starting to read but then the display jumps to the 10th or 12th track, no sound

Comment by BISBEE, posted on Nov 08, 2007

THE CD SHOWS NO DISK THEN IT WILL TURN TO READ AND NOTHING PLAYS CHANGE CD DOENOT HELP OR RESETTING DOESNOT HELP
