Question about Maytag MES5870A Electric Kitchen Range
I just recently purchased this range from a friend. It was working perfectly. Now it takes an hour to boil water, and it doesn't even get to a rolling boil. Also it took over an hour to get the oven to 350. I've checked and I'm getting 240 to the back of the range so I'm not sure what else to do. Thanks
The gas burner is broken. There is an upper burner and a lower burner. In-order for both burners to turn on, both must be working to let the gas turn on. If one burner element is out the oven wont get hot just warm.

OVEN TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT
If you think the oven is operating too cold or hot, you can adjust it. Bake several test items and then adjust the temperature set- ting not more than 10° F at a time.
To Adjust: 1. PresstheBAKEpad(upperorlower
oven) and enter 550° F.
2. PressandholdtheBAKEpad(upperor lower oven) for several seconds until TEMP ADJ is displayed.
3. PresstheAUTOSETpad-eachpress changesthetemperatureby5°F. The control will accept changes from -35° to +35° F.
4. Iftheovenwaspreviouslyadjusted, the change will be displayed. For example, if the oven temperature was reduced by 15° F, the display will show -15° F.
5. When you have made the adjustment, press the CANCEL pad and the time of day will reappear in the display. The oven will now bake at the adjusted temperature.

SOURCE: Dear FixYa expert, We bought the
Hello & Welcome to FixYa
This means open/shorted oven temperature sensor and to solve this problem the sensor needs replacement. However, as you have bought a new unit and assuming its still under warranty then it is recommended to get it replaced as it seems a manufacturing defect. If you still want to do it yourself and wan to be sure before replacing the sensor then you can test it with a voltmeter between 1080-1120ohms....if it reads more then or less then this then it needs replacement however, if the reading is around between 1080-1120ohms then it is the control board that needs replacement. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.
