Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

GE Spacemaker Microwave

My wife called me at work to inform me our GE Spacemaker macirowave model JVM1430BD circa 2002 (we have had for two years) was "dead". It looks like no power as it is completely lifeless but the ac outlet it is plugged into is fine. I just pulled out the fuse but it looks ok. I will replace it just to make sure but what else could be the problem? It has worked just fine up to now.

I replaced the fuse and it powered up, but as soon as I pressed the clear key on the keypad the fuse blew.

Our GE Spacemaker microwave model JVM2070SK02 is "dead". It looks like no power as it is completely lifeless but the ac outlet it is plugged into is fine. Does anyone know how to access the fuse(s) in the unit? I want to check it/them. It has worked just fine up to now.

May be a shorted door switch or possible bare wire somewhere that is grounded which is rare. Would suggest using an experienced technician check it due to high voltage.

The GE JVM1430BD series of microwaves provide 950W of power. This information is in the Quick Specs for the microwave. The direct link to the document is http://products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=340196_jvm1430bdwd_r2.pdf . (If the link changes, start here: http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ and search for your model. Three documents are currently available (Installation guide, Owner's Manual and Quick Specs) for the JVM1430BD series microwaves.

I hope this helps.

Problem with the GE Spacemaker (JVM1640SJ) Microwave Oven GE Spacemaker XL1800 won't heat food anymore....It worked this morning, now won't heat. What should I do?

GE Will replace the magnetron for 9 years! Mine is a 2004 model with a one year warrently according to manual. HOWEVER they did say the magnatron was covered for nine years: call 888-239-6832. When I called they said thats all they get calls for and would send out in 3-5 days. NO CHARGE. I had to ask if there was coverage longer than a year on major parts and that's when they offered the info and I eventually was transferred to the right office. Saved $120 bucks on parts alone.

Microwave oven just quit. Have checked fuse and plug. Have had no earlier problems. Do these ovens just ''wear out''? It is 8 years old. It is a GE Spacemaker. (November 2002) GE Spacemaker Serial...

yes they wear out. usally the first part to quit is the unit inside that creates the microwaves called the "magnetron" over time they will wear out, and so will the circuitry that runs the entire microwave, some will last 8 years like yours, some only a year or 2. 8 years is pretty good for the life of a microwave. but yea, its time to get yourself a new one. good luck to you

Sounds to me like you have a bad magnetron tube. Call GE Factory Service as there is either a 5 or 10 year parts warranty. Or schedule a service call online at www.geappliances.com

Surface Light Bulbs GE XL1800

Dont waste time blaming the wife. It does not pay. LOL

Call GE customer care. Give them the model and they can 1. Tell you what bulbs to use, 2. Ship you the bulbs or, 3. Send you another owners manual which I hope you will keep in a safe place.

Dead GE Spacemaker

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the thermostat to open.

When it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

2 year old ge profile spacemaker Microwave lost all power

Inside unit is a cylinder fuse which can blow for a number of reasons. External cover needs to be removed to access. If you are confident in doing this and can find & check the fuse then it would be my first guess. If fuse is OK then you will need to have repaired. If fuse isblown & you replace then it blows again, you will need to have repaired. regards
