Question about Washing Machines
My machine drum does not turn. The drive belt is fine and taught but there is no motion at all. How can I assess whether it is the motor, can I change the brushes or might it be an electricla fault?
F18 is a drainage fault.
The appliance has a set time to drain if it doesn't drain within that time F18 appears in display

Remove rear panel of washer.
Remove drive belt.
Unscrew the 2 bolts that hold motor to tub back.
Remove motor plug
Lever notor back with a screwdriver or similar, keeping a firm hold on motor.and remove motor
At the rear end of motor away from pulley you will see the brushes and the armature.
Remove brushes, and if there is less than 4 or 5mm of carbon left, then replace them.
Lightly clean the armature with emery cloth.
Refit in reverse order. Test.
Plz rate my solution.

I would say that the brushes want replacing in the motor, access to the motor is by removing the rear panel, remove the belt, and undo screws securing motor, remove motor, brushes are located at rear end of motor.
Please rate my solution.

Sounds like the motor coils are gone ,The armature would have been arcing hence the sounds you heard this may be cured by replacing thermal cut out ..This is Buried within the coils.....Check wiring to the brushes are ok also
