Question about Standard (CRT) Televisions

1 Answer

TV with lines and no color

Had problems with lines across the screen of my TV. Called a repairman who came out to fix it , worked fine when he left and then the lines came back as well as no color showing up on the screen. Now it is worse then before I called him. Is there anything that I might be able to do to try and fix it, the repairman isn't returning/answering my calls and I really can't afford to sink another 200 in for another repair. Thanks Jamy

My model number is ds27820 and i just get a thin line

This is a common problem with the vertical output IC and vertical section. (if the line is from left to right in the center of the screen)
Most shops will repair ths problem for under $100

TV: bright line across black screen for several hours.

vertical output ic needs to be resoldered. careful leaving that bright line displayed on the screen as this will cause a permanent phosphor burn into the tube. this can not be corrected once burned unless you replace the tube. mch

Those are called retrace lines. The electron beam has to go back to the beginning of the screen as part of its raster scan. Normally it is turned down so that it can't be seen. There is a little adjustment knob on the high-voltage flyback transformer called "screen" that will hopefully adjust this for you. If that doesn't work it is an indication that the high voltage circuit is dying.

Horizontal 'pinstripe' lines on all channels

sound like the screen control on the flyback is set just a little too high. the flyback has the red wire attached to the tube. the flyback has 2 small adjustable controls. if you look close enough 1 is marked focus & on is screen. turn the screen slightly to the left & look at your picture. the screen is like a master brightness & if it's up too high you will see what is called retrace lines. good luck.
