You need a audio cable for sound. HDMI cable is only for picture. I use the comp 1 plugs myself, better picture. I found with my TV that the HDMI cable is only good if you have a digital box for it. You can also use the plug to hook your computer to off your graphics card and watch downloaded movies on.

Have blue screen from HDMI inputs other inputs OK

The first thing to check is the cable, have you tried it on any other HDMI device (if you have one)? The cables are durable but not indestructible and even brand new it could be a bad unit.

On a less likely consideration: Since HDMI is a digital format (as opposed to RCA, S-video and VGA which are all analog) it requires certain compatibility. While ALMOST all HDMI device (DVD players, computers, game systems) use a pretty universal language for HDMI there are occasions where that they are not compatible, this also applies to the cable itself since it does minor translation in the process of transmitting the signal. Again, this would be a rare occurrence.

The third option is that the HDMI ports on either the device sending to the TV or on the TV itself are not working.

How do i get 1080i, my tv shows im only in 480i. i think i might have it hooked up incorrect. my other tv of another brand is much newer so all i did was connect the hdmi cable from the tv to the cable box...

Your TV will display all High Definition signals as 1080i True HDTV™ and all standard definition signals will be displayed as 480p.

Component Inputs 1-2
These inputs can be used for the connection of A/V equipment with component video outputs, such as a DVD player or external HDTV receiver. Please see Appendix B for signal compatibility.
Input DTV (480i/480p/1080i)
This input is used to connect an external DTV receiver, and can be configured for YPrPb and RGB plus H&V signal types.

As a special feature, you have the ability to adjust the red and blue light beams in reference to the fixed green light beam. This process is called convergence. There are two separate memories for convergence. One, for SD 480i/480p signals; the other for HD 1080i signals. SD convergence should be adjusted while watching an SD source and HD convergence should be adjusted while watching an HD source.

Wide Expand: Enlarges the picture, cropping some of the image on both sides. This Expand format is useful to remove or reduce black side bars on HD broadcasts of 4:3 images with black bars. Available for analog 1080i, digital SD 16:9 and digital HD signals.

This input is compatible with most standard DTV and satellite receivers with component video (YPbPr) outputs. Compatible DTV signals are SDTV 480i/480p, and HDTV 1080i. All other DTV signals, such as 720p, need to be converted by the DTV receiver to one of the compatible signal types. Please check the DTV receiver specifications before connecting.
This input is compatible with some DTV receivers using RGB with "separate H and V sync". Compatible DTV signals are SDTV 480i, 480p, and HDTV 1080i. All other DTV signals, such as 720p, need to be converted by the DTV receiver to one of the compatible signal types. Industry standards for DTV RGB signals (systems, synchronization, timing, and signal strengths) are not currently established. These inputs will not be compatible with all DTV receivers that offer RGB, HV outputs. RGB, HV signals with less than 5 cables are not compatible.
If your DTV receiver offers both DTV component video signals and DTV RGB, HV signals, we suggest you use the DTV component video signals. Check the DTV receiver specifications before connecting.

How do i change from 480i to 1080 on my Toshiba 52HM95 DLP im trying to hook up my playstation 3 with an HDMI cable but it wont switch over to 1080i

Most TVs choose the resolution based on the signal coming in. Be careful if you try and use 1080P. Not all TVs support it. 1080P is only on HDMI. set the playstation to 1080i before connection.
Some TVs and Playstation HDMI do not mix well due to software in the HDMI ports. Try RGB cables.

I have an RCA D52W20 that I connected to my PS3 with an HDMI/DVI Cable. The display is fine in 480i. However, No sound is coming from the TV.

This is normal my friend. A dvi port can't use audio even if it is using a hdmi cable. A easy fix is to connect your A/V cable into your ps3 and connect the red and white cables next to your dvi cable or connect it to your stereo. After that go into your setting, go to audio setting, click on audio output, and select A/V cable. it should work after that.

The tv reflects that it is showing in 480i whent he cable is at 1080i. i am using a hdmi cable, i know the tv is plug and play, but if that is not working can i manually switcht the tv to 1080.

There are several solution you can try. Go to your menu and manually set the TV to your own personal setting is the easiest step. The other is to change the source that generate the 1080 res. The HDTV is only capable of producing the signal it receives, not the other way around. If you have a reliable and true 1080 source, then your tuner is having some other issue or the HDMI port is bad. Try using the 5 component YCB plus sound to duplicate the problem. The Component port is capable of producing up to 1080i source. Let me know how this turn out.

RCA HD52LP: Composite video inputs don't work

RCA Authorized service tech looked at it. He determined that the DM Module need to be replaced. The part alone costs $550 + labor. Since the HDMI and component video inputs seem to work, he suggested buying a VCR DVD combo with HDMI output which would be far less than repairing the tv itself. I'n researching the possibility of purchasing the part myself.

You have to go into the blueray player menu and select the type of output. And, yes the display on the TV will automatically indicate the type signal it receives from the source.
