Question about Oster 4877 / 4878 / 6209 Toaster Oven with Convection Cooking

1 Answer

Oster microwave/grill Our new stainless steel microwave really looks great. However, after only a few months, and very little use, the plastic door latch broke off. Without the latch closed tight the microwave will not run. With little choice, I super glued the latch back together and now it will run again. I'm hoping this part is replaceable. Any suggestions?

called the customer service-yes can get part for $5 but it will take 6-8 weeks to arrive-then I have to find a technician to install/fix it is what they said. I CANNOT wait 6-8 weeks for a microwave part --how do I know that the cheap plastic latch will not do this again? I have 2 small children-use it every day (hence not want to wait 8 weeks) plus, it seems the door is difficult to shut and open-I am VERY disappointed in this product (only had 18months) from other sites on the internet sounds like I am not alone

I need to purchase a replacement for my toaster over #6233 - I need a new Baking Pan & Broiling Tray. Mine is very soiled and will not clean

FYI Oster Toaster Oven: about 18 months ago after careful consideration we purchased a counter top toaster oven for the RV from WalMart. I have a 20+ year old Oster Kitchen Center and found easy access to repair parts a couple of years ago, very pleased.
Last trip out in the RV the timer knob stripped out after what I would describe as a couple of months of light use. Google'd the model in search of a replacement knob only to find many others had "been there, done that". The model is obsolete and no service parts are available.
The Oster customer service rep seemed finished at this point and asked if there was anything else she could do for me. I asked what I, a long time Oster customer, should do with the useless oven. After repeating the question rephrased several different ways she put me on hold.
She returned several minutes later to inform me that as a "one time" courtesy Oster would replace our out of warranty oven with a current model. The replacement unit would have no warranty or support from Oster.
She supplied the model number and gave us an Order #. Looking up the model number and checking reviews I have very low expectations for the replacement. Most comment as to the poor quality and reliability of this current model.
A perfect example of a manufacturer who once produced a quality produce but now sells cheap imported disposable products.

Microwave goes on but does not heat

  • Magnetron is fried. Resistance between the magnetron terminals should be less than 3 ohms. Resistance from the magnetron terminal to ground should be infinite.
  • Fried HV capacitor. Use your ohm meter to test it.
  • Fried control board. If power is going to the board but not going off to the other components, the board is bad and needs to either be replaced or track down the bad connection (GE/Hotpoints).
  • HV Rectifier is shorted or open. Test forward and reverse bias with a megohmmeter. If continuity in both directions, rectifier is shorted, replace. If no continuity in either direction, rectifier is open, replace.

I need a new timer switch for my Oster oven, model 6297.

If your part # is DKJ/1-60 you won't find one anywhere. There is a switch made for Delonghi ovens that will work. The part # is 05XDE5218104600. The Gourmet Depot website has them. If you have a different switch, look on or search "small appliance parts" for a few other places that may have your switch. You will need the make and model # of the oven if you do not have a part #.

You *can* order parts from the manufacturer directly, but good luck with that. The first time I called, and mind you their 1-800 # is a quagmire of numeric menu selections before you ever get to talk to someone, they said they would be happy to send me one but they were out/backordered and that I should call back in 2 weeks. Instead of putting me on some kind of list and sending me one when they got more...Grrr! Then I tried calling back and made it, again, through the menu maze only to find out they are in Eastern time. Super frustrating!

But I also discovered that the flat head screwdriver is the best temporary solution until I can get my hands on a replacement knob!

Oster microwave with convection/grill

I just had the exact same problem above...
I purchased the microwave from target about 5 mos. ago payed near 200 for it..half of the time the couldnt get funtions to work well, then had heating problems until last week it nearly almost burned my kitchen up..good thing I was here.I just spent one hour at target, and of course no help..reffered me to a number, but I already know where that s going to go! Im not blaming target, but when there is a defect in the product and you can clearly see and smell that it is burnt up then, they should or the manuf. should simply replace it.It wouldnt have mattered if I had the dang receipt anyway, after 90 days in target, your screwed!
I like walmart much better, and I guess I have to go and pay another 125.00 or something for a much less complicated one.
thanks for the info above Laura florida
