Top half of screen blacks out

Recently my 42" plasma has been blacking out, but it is only the top half of the screen. It will do it sometimes when the tv is on for a short time and sometimes it takes a couple of hours for this problem to happen. when this happens there is no set duration that the top half stays blank, it could be a few seconds to several minutes. What could be the cause of this problem? Thanks for any help!!!!

    I have done the following:

    1) I have replaced all of my HDMI cables.

    2) I have removed the HDMI switch box.

    3) I hooked the components directly to the TV to elminate the HDMI switch malfunctioning (DVR, DVD Player, and Xbox Game System).

    4) Next step is to get an upgraded surg protector rather than a $5 surge protector from Home Depot.

Is this common? What can I do to elimiate?

I too have a 42" plasma that has been blacking out, but it is only the bottom half of the screen. It will do it sometimes when the tv is on for a long periods of time and sometimes it takes a couple of hours for this problem to happen. when this happens there is no set duration that the top half stays blank, it could be a few seconds to several minutes. I notice when I point my fan at the screen (to cool it down) the occurrence of the blackouts seems less. Can anyone help?

Bottom half ot our screen blacks out randomly. When I checked the closed captioning as mentioned in a previous post, it was already off. Does anyone else have a suggested solution?

Today, after speaking to the Sansui Manufacturer representative from Japan. He stated that all you need to do is to turn off the closed caption from the TV remote and not the DVR remote. Black screen can occur at the top half or the bottom half of the screen depending on how it was originally setup during installation. Try this and hopefully this fixes the problem.

This is a problem I've seen many times with this set, the upper scan board is failing. You need it repaired, it could damage another component when it fails completely.

Phillips 42 inch Plasma -Screen Issues!!!

intermittent loss of picture on either bottom or top half of screen is specific to y buffer boards located on left side of screen going from top to bottom when looking at back of tv. the y lower buffer would be the board to replace to resolve the loss of bottom half of picture. if the top half also is going out intermittently could tied to upper buffer as well but just a note the y main board to right of these buffers drives those two boards so in some cases could also be part of the problem. if only bottom half is affected i would recommend replacing lower buffer only
