You may already have the required printer drivers installed by default on your windows xp or vista system. Try connecting the printer and powering it on, and windows pnp hardware wizard should detect the printer and help you to install it. Otherwise, You may find some help getting it installed from this excellent help site. If you still have problems after trying this, write back with the printer make and model and your OS and we'll be happy to help you get it sorted out.

when i tried to use/reinstall the setup cd-rom for my canon pixma MP190 onto my dell studio there was no data in it i.e. used space and free space were both 0 bytes. can i get a download of this software through the net ?
