Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-36FS120 36" TV

TV's tuner will not recieve all channels

I have a 36" Sony Trinitron Wega CRT flat screen HDTV - not sure of model number. I'm not sure how old it is, but it appears to be about 3-5 years old (it does have one HDMI input). I bought it with my house, and I'm lucky it came with the remote, let alone the manual. As it is our secondary TV, we did not opt to rent a second cable tuner box from the cable company, rather we are relying on the TV's built-in tuner. On two other TVs without boxes, we are able to get channels into the 60s (we're not expecting the same capability as the TV with the cable box). When you auto-program this Sony, it tunes channels 2-25, and that's it. The channel numbers don't even coincide with the proper networks. It doesn't sense any digital channels. It's not the line in - I ran a coax from another TV's wall socket and it did the same thing, and the other TV gets channels above 25 normally. I saw something like this before in a far older TV (ca 1985) where it didn't have tuning over 44 - it didn't need to in 1985! This set is newer and I imagine does not have that problem. I've looked through all of the on-screen programming options, and can't seem to find anything that works. Any experts out there have any ideas? Thanks!!

I pulled the TV out of the cabinet (not an easy task) and found the model number and date of manufacture on the back: KD-36XS955 made in Jan 2006. - Bosephile

Since you are not using a set top box, you will probably only get channels up into the 70's, if available in your town, as most channels above this are digital, which analog cannot convert.  As for the digital tuner, I have the same problen.  It will not pick up any digital channels.  Because of this, I have had to get a digital box(why in the hell should I have a digital tuner?) to recieve digital channels.  I have the same tv you have, except a standard def.  If you ever find out why your digital tuner won't work, I'd love to know myself.  good luck, hope this helps.

On Sony 36 iinch Trinitron TV, when I go to HDTV channels the picture size changes to widescreen. How do I adjust back to full screen on HD? I tried the "no zoom" button but that doesn't work. Cannot...

Please note that all HDTV channels project wide screen pictures. You can still go to settings and then picture mode and change the format to 4:3/full mode.

Sony 36 Wega XBR Flat Screen - sudden death.

This could be a scan amplifier failure, and there is a loss of high voltage to the CRT. Part of the power supply may have also failed. In these sets, if the CRT emission goes low in emission, or the CRT goes defective, the bias supply to the CRT will go in to protect.

An experienced TV service tech can troubleshoot the set and give you an estimate for service. Considering the age of the set, the cost of service may not be worth it.

Apparently, channels have to be autoprogrammed first before those buttons will work.

Our TV is 4 years old but we never used the channel buttons bc it was always hooked up to DirecTv thru video input. SO when we disconnected the TV to sell, we thought it was a problem.

No signal

Check is RF Antena/ Cable connected? If yes, go to TV Menu and select Auto-Program. TV will start tuning and search all available channels on cable/ on-air. If there is no channel reception, TV has defective Tuner. If you know basic electronics knowledge, replace the Tuner or contact nearest Sony repair shop.

Channel Programming

Is this an U.S. made tv? or are you using a universal Sony purchased outside the U.S. If it was made here, then you probably have a bad tuner.
