Question about Maytag MFD2560HES Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator

2 Answers

Freezer works, warm air in fridge.

No noise when I open the doors. I see some ice build-up on the back wall of freezer. Freezer seems ok, but top fridge is slightly cool at bottom and gets warm by the time you get to the top. We have had for 2.5 years with lots of issues including the compressor which was replaced 6 months ago. PLEASE HELP!

to "the dr", I was 90% sure it was the ev. fan motor... If you would have read "frigde techs" origianl response he spoke about everything else but that, leaving it as a possibility. So I was just trying to get some clarification...

yes i too have had multiple bad evap fan motors on your model fridge. Fridgetech did mention the fan motor as the most common repair at the end of his post. However, the unit not defrosting is common as well. I felt it was a very thourough post to recieve a thanks for trying rating as if it didnt help. Did the fan fix the product??? Can I be of any further assistance???

If the ice/frost buildup is fairly thick and only on the back freezer panel then you have a defrost problem. Most likely the defrost thermostat is bad. It would be hard to explain how to test this in writing but there is a tech sheet underneath the fridge behind the grill on the r/f. It is in plastic which is stuck to the fridge. This tech sheet will tell you how to put it into diagnostic mode. First take the back panel of the freezer off (may need to get frost off first). Should be four 1/4" screws in each corner of the panel to remove. Will need to remove racks, door (should just lift off), and ice maker first. Remove vent in center of freezer panel by pushing up little tab in the center of the vent and using a screw driver to pop it loose on each side of the vent. Then remove thermistor cover on right hand side of panel. Remove (by pushing thru) ice maker plug. Once the panel is off put the fridge into defrost by the instructions on the tech sheet. If it goes into defrost (heater will get hot) then the main control board is bad. If not shut the doors to reset, defrost evaporator with a hair dryer and remove the defrost thermostat. It is a little metal round piece with two wires coming out of it and just clips onto the evaporator. Cut the two wires coming out of the thermostat, strip them back and splice them together. Now put it into defrost again. If the heater comes on then you know the thermostat is bad. Diagnostics mode can also test all functions i.e. condensor motor, compressor, evaporator fan, and thermistors. With all of that said, if it isn't a thick frost buildup the evaporator fan motor may be bad which is the most common repair on this model. It sits just behind the vent in the center of the freezer panel. Let me know what you find.

Defrost thermostat has to be below its rated temp to close the points and allow element to heat. So bypassing an appropriately open stat only confirms the heater is bad/good, not the stat.

where is the ice,is it on the food and shelves or is it on the back inside wall of the freezer?if it's on the back inside wall of the freezer you have a defrost problem, bad defrost thermostat, heater, timer or board depending on your model number,if it's on the shelves, door and food packages warm air is getting into the freezer somehow either from the door not closing or the door was left open, could have a bad gasket on the door, the ice chute door could be broke and not closing.let me know what you find and the picture shows a side by side but i'll need the model number too,if it's a side by side or freezer on the bottom the model number should be in the fridge section,on the right hand wall up near the ceiling,if the freezer is on top the number should be on the left side wall in the fridge section up near the ceiling.but with this hot wheather we're having if the door was left open this will happen, you can shut down the machine or unplug it,remove the food from the freezer and melt the ice with a hair dryer, don't do this with the machine running because the hot air will cause the same problem, after the ice is melted you can put the food back in and restart it.

Freezer is frosting and refrigerator is warm.

As far as your freezer frosting up, sounds like a door seal problem, run your fingers along the seam of the door seal, there should be no splits/holes in the seal.
As far as the refrigerator either there is a secondary fan motor, or there is a obstruction blocking the air movement, if the freezer has a bad seal, its suspect ice is still building up.

I have a maytag fridge (freezer on bottom) the fridge is not very cold. freezer has started to get ice near the door opening in the last week.

if you see ice near the door the door muat not be closing all the way or the gasket could be ripped, ice will form where warm and cold air are mixing together, did you remove any of the shelves or baskets in the freezer or in the fridge?i've seen people clean out the fridge and the shelves weren't put back in correctly keeping the door open, check that or food packages that might be hitting the door, when the warm air gets in it usually freezes the air ducts, this is why the fridge is warm, all that happens is the evaporator coil in the freezer gets cold, the evap fan blows the cold air from the freezer into the fridge section and then it returns through other air ducts so if warm air is getting in it will freeze up the air ducts, you can try shutting down the machine or unplug it,remove the food from the freezer and with a hair dryer hit the back inside wall of the freezer, blow the air up into the vent holes in the back wall,if you see water dripping down through the slots you have ice up in there, keep blowing the hot air up into the holes until you don't see any more water dripping,if you can remove the ice maker and remove the back inside wall of the freezer would be better.first check the freezer back wall to see if there's any frost or like snow on it,if so you could have a defrost problem, bad jazz board, this is the computer board that's behind your digital controls in the fridge section, bad defrost thermostat or heater, also do you mean the floor of the freezer has ice on it,you could have a blocked drain in the freezer.write back with more info and let me know what you find and hopefully i can help you better.

Why are only drawers in fridge cold & not making ice?

Contact a professional. Sounds like either your damper door is not operating correctly and not letting enough cool air from the freezer enter, or there is an air leak that is making ice form .

Kitchenaid fridge, french door, bottom freezer. Freezer door was left open, now rails for ice bin remain frozen, difficult to pull out.

take the food out of the freezer, shut down the machine or just unplug it,get a hair dryer and hit the tracks and check the ceiling where the light is,usually ice builds up there to if the door was left open.also blow the air at the back wall, the air ducts could have froze up and the fridge will get warm, all it does is there's a fan in the freezer and it blows cold air from the freezer up and into the fridge section, sometimes depending on how long the door was open is the air ducts freeze and the fan can't blow the air up into the fridge, the tracks shold melt out fast then wipe them down but i would hit the back wall for a while until you don't see any water dripping down through the slots in the back wall, should take you no more than around 30 to 40 minutes to do this, hope this helps and good luck.

Defrost heater is open behind back wall. order new heater #wr55x10101 remove 4 screws 2 bottom, 2 top behind light shield, defrost freezer so ice is off of evap, replace heater with new one.

WHIRLPOOL CB18M FRIDGE FREEZER

3 things to check. If you didn't adjust the damer from the freezer to the refrigerator, like closed it off. Is the freezer fan running? The fan blows air from the freezer to the refrigerator section. Some fans shut off when the door is open so you may have to push in the door switch to check this out.
Look for ice on the back wall, of the freezer section, If present then the defrost cycle is not working. The evap. coil is icing up and there is no air blowing into the refrigerator. Set the thermostat back to the normal setting it just causes a longer run time on the freezer section.

If the ice build up is only on the back panel of the freezer then you have a defrost problem. Most likely a defrost thermostat or control board/timer. If frost build up is around the walls of the freezer then warm air is getting into the freezer. Most likely cause of this would be gaps in or torn door gasket or door alignment. In some cases the door was left cracked open. If gasket and door alignment is ok remove the frost and see if it comes back.

Is your fan blowing in the freezer? Frost on the back wall of the freezer usually indicates a defrost problem... defrost themostate, heaters, take back panel off and check evap for frost build up and if your fan in working.
