Question about Toshiba Satellite A10-S167 Notebook
May be you should install driver software for your sound card. If it is installed just go to Control panel > click speech and audio devices > Click the "Place volume icon on the taskbar" option. if it is muted unmute it. This should solve your problem.

Tips for a great answer:
The Windows operating system on your Toshiba laptop contains a functionality that allows you to increase the volume.
Your laptop's volume is a measure of the decibel levels of sound that your Toshiba laptop will put out.
If you are having trouble hearing music of video files, you may need to boost the sound volume, which can be accomplished by following several steps.
Press the "Start" button on your desktop.
Click on the "Control Panel" icon then double-click on the icon labeled "Sounds and Audio Devices."
Click on the "Volume" tab then move the device volume slider to increase the volume.
Close the "Control Panel" when you have completed the operation, and your volume should be louder.
Hope this helps.
