Need New Motherboard and Power Supply

Ok, when I moved somehow the power supply got fried. So I took it into geek squad just to make sure and basically get more info than I already knew and they told me that my motherboard is fried as well. When a new power supply was hooked up, there was a repeting beeping sound and the guy told me that I needed a new motherboard. Well, I believe I know how to tell what the model is, I think it is a Micro Star MS 7046. I wanted to try to get the exact same one so I wouldn't have other hardware compatibility issues. Especially since a few months before it broke I upgraded the RAM to 1.5GB and I would like the RAM especially to be compatible. I can take the RAM card out and tell what type it is, I just don't know what exactly to read off the card to get the type of card. So I have many issues. I just want to find the same motherboard. Whats some good advice for this problem? Also I STILL need to buy a new power supply and wanted to know a good way to find a good one to get for my computer. Thanx

Re: Need New Motherboard and Power Supply

You said when your problem started it was making a beep? then you said you upgraded the RAM. Did you know thats the beeping sound made when its the wrong RAM. Its just a hunch but is it possible if you placed the old rams back in it might go. JUST A HUNCH OK!!!! When you took it in to see the GEEK he may have been trying to get some dollars from you and it didnt pay off.....just a hunch. If the Hunch is not a hunch you can see on the centrer of the board what kind it is. As far as the power supply is concerned what happened to the original do you still have that. What made you change. Gosh it must have emitted over the 18volts in the adapter........Im lost?

My Guess is Power Supply Failure...

If you have a similar PC laying around, you can simply swap them out (make sure no wires are left unplugged when you swap them, b/c you could leaving something important unplugged :-)

Not for the Faint of Heart.

Order a new power supply matching the one you've got or compatible (based on PC Model) and swap it out.

Find a friend of a friend to do the above for you.

Take it down to Geek squad - or another Computer Repair place and have them do it.

Power supply of dell d09m not working

Buy a new one and install it. You need something that is at least as powerful as the one you are replacing. And buy a decent name brand supply, don't go cheap your entire computer depends on what power supply you choose. Visit Hardware Revolution for an excellent writeup on choosing a new power supply. Before you take the old one out unplug the machine and press in the power on button for five seconds to drain what you can. Open the case and take pictures of where all the cables from the power supply insert into the mother board and video cards (if any) and sometimes a case fan will be clipped into the power supply as well. Remove the old one after grounding yourself to the case and install the new one. Power supplys are rated in Watts, the one pictured below is 810Watts/67.5Amps. Your supply will have a sticker similar to the one pictured below. Dell use the cheapest and lowest rated supplys they can get away with. Buy something better. If you replace the supply and the computer won't boot either the old supply was good and something else was fried or when it died it took out another component like the motherboard. Check if you have a loose stick of ram, any cable or cord or a card half out of it's slot. Try to reboot again. You may see a steady or blinking amber light on the motherboard that indicates a power problem with the motherboard or power supply. Look for bulged, loose or leaking components on the motherboard. Capacitors especially. Good luck!

It sounds like a power supply failure. Do you plug it straight into the walll or into a surge protector. If you are close to a best buy, go to geek squad they will diagnose the issue for free but the fix is real simple. Let's just put it this way there are a few things that protect the motherboard from getting fried. If it is the PSU u are looking at roughly 40-60 dollars and it is a matter of 6 connections. Give me a shout if you need more help

I have a hp pavilion 513c it wont boot up! the

There are only two ways this can go for you.

One- you need a new power supply

Two, you need a new mother board

You can verify the power supply by checking it on another machine

If the power suppy is good

And you do not hear the bios beep- then you are looking at a new motherboard- I would double check the powersupply first- most stores that sell them will let you check before you buy a new powersupply.

No power

Just open ur P.C cabinate and look when the Power supply is on in ur mother board then there is a green light in ur Mother board ; is it on ??
If the LED is on then I hope ur mother board is ok yet.
Then I think there is some connection prob on the pushing button on the cabinate.
Check it if it is not then u have to replace ur mother board.
