Question about Balance Notebook

Where can I find drivers for my Balance 14.1

I bought a new hard drive but and had Xp reinstalled from the dealer. However, he said I need an audio driver and there are 3 other unidentifable PCI cards. I don't see my wireless network card anymore so I assume that I need all my drivers, but Balance Digital is out of business.

New hard drive operating system not found

The reason why you cannot install Windows on your hard drive is this model Sony has a SATA disk controller.
The problem is that XPinstallation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on adisk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then,XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP.The FIX.Go into the BIOS anddisable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is aIDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows hasbeen installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver),then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

I assume you want to install windows XP on your laptop.
The XP installation disk doesn't contain the SATA drivers needed to operate your harddisk.

There are two different aproaches to solve this kind of issue.
First: (very simple, works only sometimes): enter the BIOS setup and find any option related to SATA MODE. Change the current option to something like LEGACY or anyway, to other value than the default one. Try now to do the windows installation again.

Second: (not so simple, but work everytimes): The goal is to create a custom windows installation disk, especially for your laptop. This can be done using a free software called N-LITE.
Using this software + your old windows installation disk + the SATA drivers downloaded from the Gateway support site you will be able to burn a new windows installation disk with the SATA drivers integrated. Keep this new created disk for future use.
If you need help about using N-lite, you can find a lot of examples and tutorial online, but of course you can ask here again about that, I'll be glad to offer further help.

Please let me know if it helped.

Good luck!

Bought new hard drive for mini 1012 dell bios sees new hard drive but when i try to install windows xp , xp says no mass storage device detected.

In the bios change the drive options to anything but AHCI if possible. You will need a windows xp driver and USB floppy disk to install the AHCI or SSD driver. It's also referred to as an F6 Floppy. Dell should have the download you need.

If your hard drive is still working fine, you shouldn't need to reinstall Windows again. Most of the time your PC will perform as it did before your motherboard died by simply reinstalling the original hard drive.
If not then do this.
Reinstall windows with your restore CD, and with most gateway laptops you should have a drivers and applications CD that restores your motherboard drivers and applications to their original locations.

If you lost your drivers CD, you can download them all here.

When asked, you should allow XP updates so that Service Pack 3 can install. This will add a few windows based drivers to your laptop that may be necessary for better video, audio and wireless performance.

Your restore CD may not ask for your CD Key, this is typical for a Vendors original restoration, but if for some reason it does, the number on the back of your laptop will work. Mine validated just fine.

Hard Disk Drive

Good day sir/maam, if your problem is the hard disk drive, try to reformat it first, usually reinstall your XP. if it cannot be formatted or cannot detect by your laptop. go underneath your laptop, and find the access panel for your hard drive. Remove the panel and you may find the Hard drive. Get a new one, replace it reinstall your OS. It would be better if you can add extra information about your hard drive problem. Better yet visit your local service center/dealer for proper advice.

Hard Drive crash-reinstalled XP results in No wireless or sound

Does your device manager show that you have a wireless network card? If so, you turn it on and off usint the Fn + F2 buttons together. If you need the driver, go here to choose which one you have, and download it.

New driver should do the trick on the audio, so why don't you go here to download it.
