Question about Philips 25PS40S 25" TV

Open Question

Tv screen is black with snow.

I have an older model magnavox television. T.V was left on for a couple of hours. The screen went black with snow. I do have cable. It was working fine when first turned on. It is hooked up to a comcast cable box. It is not doing anything, the screen is black. When i unhook the box and hook basic cable to the television it does the same thing

My TV was on for a couple of hours- then, the broadcast channels- 2-17, all were either black with snow, or some color and a lot of snow. I've checked the connections, but all is hooked up correctly

SOURCE: nothing but snow

Your explanation about a different TV receiver working OK on the same aerial connections leads me to believe you have lost the tuning in the faulty receiver...
Just "snow" with no sound is a classic response for lost tuning....
It shouldnt have lost the tuning as there is a small battery(capacitor) that holds the previous receiver channel settings when you turn the TV off. But as you have had the Receiver in the back of a truck and disconnected from the power supply for some time then this is probably the culprit....
This battery (Capacitor) may be getting old and has lost its capability of sending a minute amount of current to the tuner IC (Chip) hold your previous channel settings...So if you can retune the receiver to the output from the Dish Network Receiver you should be fine again, but if the battery is shot you need a new one....or just leave the Receiver in the standby mode for a couple of days to re-charge the battery (capacitor) up.
You will need a service technician to replace this small battery (capacitor) its a special type made just for your receiver....
Hope this helps

SOURCE: we can't get the dvr/cable box to work with the tv

Assuming you have connected the DVR/Cable box with a standard co-axial antenna cable, switch on the box and go to the tuning menu on the TV.

Tuning details are in the TV manual. If you don't have the manual, download here:

When tuning is completed go through the channels to find the cable box. (Note: TV will not tune to the box if it is not switched on when tuning)

If there is still no connection, the DVR/Cable box may need connecting with a composite video cable (red / white / yellow RCA connectors), rather than just a standard co-ax cable.

The connection is at the front of the TV. There is no red connector on this TV so you will have to use an adaptor to connect both left and right (red & white) audio into the white socket. Select AV on the remote control.

SOURCE: TV seems to be in some kind of sales demo mode

To disable the Demo mode, perform the following:

  1. Turn GA_googleFillSlot("TL-IMU-Article"); on the TV.
  2. Simultaneously hold down the Vol+ and Vol- buttons on the front of the TV. Do not use the remote control.
  3. Hold for about 6 seconds
  4. Certain model TVs may turn off, others will not. But in either case, the Demo mode should be disabled.

try these
and if you are sure that the comcast remote uses 5 digit codes then try these

make sure you get the Red LED code entered Confirmation Blink after entering the code digits.

its either a double blink or a Long Solid blink

if you have 4 digit codes it will blink before can enter the 5th, so you will know

Magnavox tv trouble

Intermitant problems on old TV's are almost always poor solder connections. If you have done some soldering before you may be able to repair yourself, if not i wouldn't try to learn on this. Begin by gently tapping components on the circuit boards while the TV is on good chance you will tap an area and it will shut right off. make sure you are using something insulated and non-metalic. if you find a spot that is especially sensitive get to the bottom of that circuit board and begin soldering. this is probably the most likely cause but there are other possibilities. If you attempt this do be very carefull. My honest suggestion is to have a pro do it, if it just solder work it shouldnt cost that much maybe around a 100 to 150 if you can take it in somewhere.
