Canon iP4300 - ink tanks not recognised

Out of the blue I got the above message "ink tanks not recognised" when I tried to send an item to print. I have checked the tanks - which are stock canon tanks - and they are all half full. Canon support have been no use apart from suggesting that I reinstall the driver. I have done this and the problem still exists. Any suggestions?

I've been getting the same message intermittently. The printer's about a month old, and I've done almost no colour printing. The tanks are the ones that came with the printer and are (apparently) full. It's always the cyan tank (light off), and I remove and replace it so the light comes back on. Up to now, everything then works OK, but now it refuses. The light comes back on every time I replace it, but I get the same error message when I try printing, and the light is off next time I look.

Same problem described - new printer hardly any ink used but the cartridge fails to be recognised. For a while it was OK if I removed and put it back - but now I can't get any joy at all.

I have the same problem...it's driving me nuts as I try to print my wedding invitations. I tried the solution below, but it didn't work. Any other ideas?

My first post is the problem of my printer now.

Sorry I had post my problem in Solution window.

    In your sitauation Micke9:

1.Repalce your ink cartridge 1 by 1 with good cartrige so that you will know which cartridge is not working. (Better to use original ink to make it sure in troubleshooting that problem.

Solution: Reseat the Print Head and ink tanks iP4300

    Untitled Document
How to remove the print head / ink tanks

Remove the print head or ink tanks properly following the procedure below.

    1. Confirm that the printer is powered on and open the top cover. The print head moves to the replacement position.

Note: When the top cover is opened more than ten minutes, the print head moves to the right side. If this occurs, close the top cover, and open it again.

    2. Open the paper output tray and pull down the inner cover.

    3. Remove the ink tanks by pressing the tab of each tank.

Note: Handle the ink tanks with care so that your clothes and surrounding area do not get soiled. When replacing multiple ink tanks, make sure to replace one by one.

    4. When removing the print head, raise the print head lock lever first.

To reinstall the Print Head and Ink Tanks

    1. Place the print head in the holder and lower the print head lock lever carefully until you hear a click.

    2. Insert ink tanks into the print head.

Press the mark 'PUSH' on the ink tank firmly until you hear a click.

    3. Ensure that all the ink tanks are installed properly and the ink tank lamps light red.

<1> The ink tanks are installed properly.

<2> The ink tanks are not installed properly.

Note: You can check the status of each ink tank according to the way its lamp flashes.

    - On: The printer is ready to print.

    - Slow flashing (at about three second interval): Ink is low. Prepare a new ink tank.

    - Fast flashing (at about one second interval): Ink tank is empty, or the printer is not ready due to an error.

    - Off: An error has occurred and the printer is not ready to print.

    4. Put back the inner cover and close the top cover.

Note: When starting printing next time, the print head cleaning launches automatically.
During the print head cleaning, the Power lamp flashes green. Do not do other operations until the flashes stops.

Canon IP4300 - the two black ink cartridges

No!

The large cartridge is used for text only printing.
The smaller black cartridge is used for black in images such as pictures.

You have a "C (cyan) M (magenta) Y (yellow) and B (black) color system. This actually saves the color inks for you. If the Black was not there, you would need to make a composite black from the color inks.

My CANON iP4300 printer does not print and has a yellow light that flashes 13 times. What does that mean??

This according to the user's guide:
The remaining ink level cannot be correctly detected.
Replace the ink tank and close the Top Cover.
Printing with an ink tank that was once empty may damage the printer.
If you want to continue printing in this condition, you need to release the function for detecting the remaining ink level. Press and hold the RESUME/CANCEL button for at least 5 seconds, and then release it.
* With this operation, releasing the function for detecting the remaining ink level is memorized. Please be advised that Canon shall not be liable for any printer malfunction or damage caused by refilled ink tanks.

U150, the following ink tank cannot be recognized

I had this same problem too and it's so frustrating because you cannot even scan and scanning is completely unrelated to ink. We called Canon and found out that it was a bad print head (ink tank). They ended up sending us one for free so I recommend calling them to report the problem. 1-800-828-4040.

Can't I print with only one black ink

I have a similar machine ip5000. Currently have a problem getting the big one to print and have posted for a solution elsewhere. If I print withjust the small tank it does some black work i.e. type but it needs the other big tank to give full photo pictures.

If you are just looking to print typing try changing your font collour to a dark blue or other. This gets round the black problem but you will need the 2nd black cartridge for full colour work.

Hope this helps.

Orange light blinking

Solution: Confirm the ink tank(s) are properly installed iP4300

Ensure that the ink tank is installed properly. Open the Top Cover, Paper Output Tray and Inner Cover, and then press on the 'PUSH' mark on the ink tank whose lamp is off until the ink tank clicks into place. Once the ink tank is installed properly its lamp will light red.
Ensure that all the orange tape has been peeled off as shown in (1). If a part of the orange tape remains as shown in (2), remove it completely.

(1) Correct (An L-shaped notch* appears on the ink tank.)

(2) Incorrect (Orange tape remains. Peel off the tape along the perforation.)
