Freezer compartment runs continuously

The evaporator fan may have failed or the evaporator is iced up and no airflow is going through it, check the fan and the defrost timer

I think it isn't fine because if a fridge/freezer that is otherwise healthy runs continuously (due to a thermostat fault), it would be colder than you could imagine with lower than arctic temperatures in the freezer compartment, minus 30-40 C for example.

The conclusion must be your fridge isn't fine.
Proper freezer temperature, incidentally, is minus 25-27 C for food to have a reasonable lifespan with minimal deterioration. There is no benefit from being colder but significantly warmer would mean the freezer contents should be replaced much more often - the freezer compartment of an old fashioned fridge (about minus 5) was reckoned to give fish, meat and dairy up to one month safe lifespan.

A fridge that runs continuously (where the thermostat is good) could have a refrigerant loss resulting in a huge drop in efficiency, the insulation could be failing, the compressor could be failing or the de-icing panel could be permanently switched on - or any combination of these things.

I note you say the coils are clean. If the refrigeration system is good with the compressor running continuously the coils will be hand-hot.

Does the freezer get cold? Any cooling? There could be a number of things. Biggest problem is this machine is not worth fixing. The amount of energy it uses monthly is probably 1.5 times what a new one uses in a whole year. Technology has changed greatly in the last 42 years. Recycle your old one. Some utilities, like the one in my area, will pay you to replace it!!

First of all I'll need to know about how old it is and second where is the fan located ie. on the rear wall or on the bottom of the freezer compartment?

I doubt it since montgomery ward was bought out by maytag a long time ago, and now maytag got bought out by whirlpool.

Are you having a problem with your freezer? the manual wont tell you anything about troubleshooting

ur solving ur own problem the fan either needs to be thawed ,lubed,repaired or replaced the fan uses the air from the freezer to cool the fridge side but bench test the fan before replacing if fan good than check the thermostat in fridge for proper working order

I am not sure if know what you are talking about,but if this like a refrigrate,then I would check under the bottom to see if the condsener is clogged.Check to see if the fan is running.
