HP Pavillion Keyboard Dies

Hello I have an HP Pavillion and sometimes when the machine is on for a while when and goes into sleep mode, when I come back the keyboard wont respond. I can move the mouse, open programs, and the machine otherwise seems like its working, but the keyboard won't work. I have to restart the computer to get it to work again. Any leads on to why this happens would be great. It is a wired keyboard. Thanks

Re: HP Pavillion Keyboard Dies

My suggestion to you is to do research into power saving settings. If its a usb keyboard, you may be able to find information on your usb power settings. If your able to find the settings part, there may be something that says "reduce power in power saving mode". This setting may even be in your fact, that would be the first place I'd look. The second would be my device panel. If you do find the setting, tell your usb to not save power. This may help. I'd also suggest to go onto hp's site and see if there are updated drivers for power saving modes especially if you have a ps/2 keyboard. Sometimes there are hotfixes that solve problems like these what are 'optional' downloads. If you still cant figure it out, let me know.

HP Slimline Pavillion s3123w monitor going to sleep.

Sounds like the motherboard might be bad but go thru these steps.

Unseat and reseat the memory one stick at a time in each slot one at at time and turn on the computer after each stick reinsertion.

If that doesn't get the video to come back up then go ahead and unseat and reseat the CPU. Then try turning on the computer.

If that doesn't do it, make sure there is no power going to the hard drive or the dvd drive. Then try turning on the computer.

If you do all of these steps and you still have no video, then the motherboard is bad and would need to be replaced.

PC shuts down while running Windows

Attempt to boot the machine in Safe-Mode.

While powering up continuously hit F8.

You will get a Boot Option Menu, Select Safe-Mode boot

If you can get into safe-mode I would suggest to try doing an online scan, as it sounds like your issue could be related to malware:

Sleep Mode Lockup on Dell Inspirion 530 w/ Vista

Try hitting the "Windows" key on your keyboard to bring it out of sleep mode. The "Windows" key is generally found on the bottom row of the keyboard, near the Alt and Ctrl keys, and it has no letters on it, just the Windows logo. That key brings my Windows Vista machines out of sleep mode when other keys won't.

As for the power button, anytime you need to force a computer to turn off, you can press and hold the power button to do so. Usually, you need to hold the power button for 5-10 seconds and it will shut down. Use this option with caution, as it turns the computer off without running through the shutdown process and can cause you to lose data.

Hope this helps.

Keyboard does not work

need to what? I'm not sure what the rest of the question is but it sounds like you need to keep your computer from going to sleep mode. You can do this by clicking on your start menu then going to control panel then inside power options you can turn sleep mode off. There really is no real reason for a home pc to go into sleep mode.
