Hi,
Sounds like the needle valve is sticking open. Could be as simple as cleaning it.

You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You don’t have to bend up the electrode. HTH

Remove, clean and reinstall the muffler and spark arrestor, if no better the "L" needle may need adjustment.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com
http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20carb%20tune.htm

  • CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
  • Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.
  • Clean the spark arrestor and muffler; if the saw cannot exhale it cannot inhale.
  • There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full - may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too.
Most chainsaws die because they are are run lean. I am going to inject a little Lou theory here. Air leaks and defective fuel delivery systems account for most chainsaw failures. Constant adjustment of needle valves can easily camouflage more serious problems that result in burning up your saw.

SOURCE: Husqvarna chain chain saw wont run.

Inspect the flywheel and crankshaft under the starter cover. Are the woodruff key slots on the crack shaft and flywheel aligned and the key intact? If not; Please consider taking the saw to a good local saw seller/mechanic for a written diagnosis before authorizing any repair or ordering parts, if yes continue.

Disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the plug (was it tight?). Remove the muffler (clean it and the spark arrestor before reinstalling), hold a light at the plug hole and inspect the cylinder through the exhaust port. Is it smooth and shiny or does it appear speckled with dull gray spots or smears?

Pull the starter slowly, inspect the piston as it rises and falls. Is the piston ring intact? Hold the light at the exhaust port and look through the spark plug hole, inspect the top of the piston, Any obvious damage?

Remove the decomp valve leave the ignition off place you thumb firmly over the hole. Better?

Check the fuel lines for hardness, cracking, splitting, or end rot. Check the muffler for plugging. Check the carburetor fasteners for tightness. Are you using fresh fuel mix? If the carburetor jets have been adjusted, try turning both CW to stops (lightly) then back out each CCW 1-1/2 turns. Engine should start and run--allow to warm up. Pull the throttle full on, and adjust H needle CW until the engine starts to speed up, but still 4-strokes. Proper adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Let idle and adjust L CW for fairly smooth running, but still allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Hope this helps!

I have a Black Max BM3818VN chain saw. It is so hard to pull start is there a pressure relief valve?

I answered this yesterday! It would have been better to give me the answer to the model number under my answer by clicking Comment. I am pretty sure Xander is an AI Answer Bot. We have seen the format before. Ask him a question based on his answer.

No Decompressor, just a choke. That means something is binding. a full tear down is needed.

I have a Husqvarna 55 Rancher and it is very hard to pull start--it does not have a compression relief--once it starts it works fine

The saw may have built up carbon on the piston or exhaust port. This would cause the starter rope to be difficult to pull. Have the secondary compression checked. It should be between 130 - 155 psi.

Hard to pull start husqvarna 435 chain saw, is there a relief port plugged

You may have to pull the spark plug to remove pressure in the combustible chamber for the first pull. Seek a professional.

Saw starter pulling too hard to start.

Check piston rings. Sounds like you have a seized engine.

Homelite chain saw XL925 cord pull too hard but if you remove the spark plug then it pulls OK.

I have a Homelite XL and was having problems with rope pulling from difficult to unable to pull rope while trying to start saw. I removed the muffler, squirted some WD40 through the exhaust port ABOVE and BELOW the piston compression ring. Then pulled the rope about 20 times without spark plug to fully lubricate the piston and cylinder. Left it till the next day, pulled it through about 20 more times, put the spark plug back in,and it works well now. Guess it was just gummed-up a little and the lubrication freed it.

I have a wild thing. the rope pull starter is very hard to pull. when i take the spark plug out it is easy to pull. the saw was not used for about 4 years until yesterday. it ran for about 45 minutes fine....

one piston ring has expanded now having no or a very fine gap increasing the compression ratio causing this to happen. When the spark plug is removed it is very easy to pull on the cord in any means. A inspection is due of this engine or a new chain saw is needed

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
Remove the muffler and clean out the exhaust port and screen. You will have to disassemble the muffler and clean off or replace the screen item 8 of this link:
http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=echo&mn=CS-330T++S%2FN%3A+C08611001001+-+C08611999999&dn=7946

Before taking the muffler apart... unhook the spark plug and just pull it though with the muffler removed. If it pulls normally you know you have found the problem.

If it still pulls hard...check the exhaust port of the cylinder head for 2 tiny holes (not screw holes) Some have them some don't depending upon the year of the saw. If you do find 2 small holes that appear clogged with carbon... do your best to clean them out.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
