Gas range burned out during self-clean feature

Wow, first off I have to say I am shocked at how many people have the same problem as I have had with this range! So my electrical panel totally blanked out during the self-clean feature (I was doing the quick clean - 2hr 30min) and since the door locks during the clean, it has stayed locked. so since most people have commented on it being the thermal part that needs repair - my question is how much will it cost to be repaired? I want to make sure I don't get ripped off. ps - i also contacted kitchenaid to let them know that there are quite a few people that have this problem noted (check out epinions as well) and that it could possibly warrant a recall. They said they would note it in my file - ya thanks.

Same range, same problem.First time door would not unlock..2 week process to install a "new fuse". I was told sometimes this happens with self cleaning mode and maybe I should not use it! I said thats not why I purchased it. After that I was affraid to try self clean mode. I did today...and SAME thing! I'm so angry! My Dacor range I had for 20 years never gave me a problem once..I switched it out for a more modern stainless look. I'm feeling pretty stupid.

I purchased this along with 3 other kitchenaid appliances when we redid our kitchen.. from the 1st, this oven has been an issue.. 3 times the oven has totally shut down and the thermastat fuse blown with the panel and 3 times fixed by kitchenaid... said it was a ventilation issue.. fixed that supposedly and I was affraid to run it.. waited about 1 1/2 yrs.. ran it again (I don't use the oven very often to get that dirty) and the same thing happened.. I have since filed a complaint with consumer affairs... this is a lemon issue and should be taken care of by kitchenaid...

Usually labor will be the costly part. Local repair places tend to cheaper. I would expect the repair to cost any where from $110 - $170.

Door of the oven will not open after using self cleaning

Hi Virginia.

if you just finished, the door will not usually unlock until the oven is back to room temperature. This is a safety feature to avoid fires or bad burns resulting from the extreme temperatures used during the self-clean.

My self cleaning oven doesn't stay on and the message says f2 e1 what's wrong with it

I would suggest never to use the self clean feature. The oven gets so hot that it will burn up some of the components. I did this and it burnt up a ten dollar sensor. After calling a repair man and haveing it fixed it ended up costing $500.00

It is best to clean a self cleaning oven with anything except the self cleaning feature.
The self cleaning feature will eventually destroy other parts causing repair.

My rf367 range gets so hot during the self cleaning cycle that the top of the range is to hot to touch and the fan on my otr microwave comes on.

Normal operation. If in doubt place a high temp theromoter on range top to see if it exceeds 600-900 degrees
The basic idea is "burn baby, burn!" Self-cleaning ovens use an approximately 900 degrees Fahrenheit (482 degrees Celsius) temperature cycle to burn off spills leftover from baking, without the use of any chemicals. A self-cleaning oven is designed with a mechanical interlock (patented in 1982) to keep the oven door locked and closed during and soon after the high-temperature cleaning cycle, which can be approximately three hours. The door stays locked to prevent burn injuries. You can open the oven door after the oven cools to approximately 600 F (315 C).
